In my top ten of worse sessions ...

... and it wasn't even anything she said or did. The energy was just bad.

It was our first session back after her vacation. So I went into the session knowing those sessions are never the best. But it was even worse than I anticipated. She was quiet, I was quiet. She looked at the clock - more than once. It took all my energy not to bolt.

I guess some sessions are bad not that it is anyone's fault - they just are.

I even asked, "I feel like you wish you were still on vacation." She said, "No, it's always nice coming home. Don't you think so?" Me, "depends."

I hate when I leave feeling so empty.

Yuck, that sounds very unsatisfying. I hate waiting all week, expecting some measure of emotional comfort, and having a bad session. I hope next time is better for you.

Well I certainly hope the next one is better!

I'm sorry Annie. I wonder what was happening for both of you that you couldn't find each other and reconnect? Sometimes it is the expectations that we bring with us and sometimes it is the left over vacation exhaustion.

How do you think you will start the next session? Will you bring up how disappointed you are?

Me too. :(

I tend to forget who my therapist is to me when he's away. The flow is interrupted. I hope that next session, the energy will be more what it usually is.

I really do think it's hard for them to resume after a vacation. Not because they don't want to come back (although mine likely doesn't), but just because they haven't been that way for a while.
