Dumped again

Posted by Cloudydaze on February 10, 2009, at 16:54:58

So I just got word that my psychiatrist is no longer accepting medicaid patients, and I'm going to have to start over AGAIN with a new psychiatrist.

I cried upon hearing this. I really liked my guy. Been seeing him for a few years. Plus its a pain to have to find someone else who accepts medical card, get a referral from my doc, etc...ugh I hate the state of illinois! Stupid Stupid Stupid.

Why do poor people not deserve the same health care as everyone else? Are we not good enough? I havent been to the dentist in over 2 years because I can't find one that will take my medical card! Thank god I have never had a cavity (yet). I need my teeth cleaned, but can I get that? NOPE.

I clearly need to see a psychiatrist, but now I have to waste time looking for another, and in the meantime I will probably run out of meds and lapse back into a depressive coma...

What the hell?

Oh no! I'm so sorry. I hope you find a new pdoc that you like as well (if not better) than this one. It really is a shame how the amount of money you have determines the kind of help (if any!) you can get. I sure hope you can find one soon and that it won't be too stressful of a process.

I know what you mean about the dentists. Their prices are ridiculous, even if you have insurance. You're like (when they show you the bill) "that's MY part?!"

Well, take care and again, I'm really sorry you are having to deal with this now and I hope you find a good doctor (again) soon.

Sharon

I'm really sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately with insurance it seems like there's always an issue to negotiate. An arrangement I know has worked for some is finding a therapist with a sliding scale rate, which can be more manageable. Perhaps your T can even give you some suggestions?

I heard it will get worse before better. Seems now there is a shortage of doctors of all specialties. Even the radiologists are exiting LA the radiologist I saw this week said as teaching hospitals pay the least. Empathize with the dentist four years for me as medicaire doesn't have dental insturance. There are no vacant signs in the theapists offices here. I would like to find a therapist but where? Stress is driving me nuts. Phillipa sure hope you have some great luck finding a new doc who takes your insurance.

OK UPDATE!

I got a bill for almost $700 from this pdoc that dumped me. I went there for over a year and NEVER got a bill until now. I was outraged, not only because medicaid should have covered it, but because they had the nerve to send me this bill after greatly inconveniencing me. Anywho - hopefully medicaid will pick it up, but if they don't I'm NOT paying it. I can't pay it. Apparently it got screwed up when medicaid split their coverage into 2 seperate plans...which was a pain.

On the upside, I got a referral from my regular doc to see a psychologist. My regular doc thinks he can manage my prescriptions with the help of the psychologist.

I havent called to set up an appointment because I've had so much other stuff on my mind, but I should know in the next week whether or not this new arrangement will work.

I havent been to a psychologist or a therapist in years. I prolly need to go.

I am trying really hard to get my life back together, and I'm starting with my health. I had to force myself to go to the gyno today...I put off my annual visit for a year...heh. I got too old to go to the teen health place I was going to...and the other ob/gyn place I knew of wouldnt take me, so I had to get a referral for that too.

Next comes making an appt with the psychologist, and trying to get a dental referral (its been 3 years since I've been to a dentist - BECAUSE NO ONE TAKES MEDICAID!).

Also, I am getting serious about losing weight. Its now up to 100lbs I need to shed...wow. Thats a staggering number. Never thought I'd see it. I'm suffering several health conditions because of my weight. Its overwhelming. I'm ashamed of me for letting myself get this large. Daily tasks are becoming harder. I have zero energy (possibly the sleep apnea and bipolar contribute to this - a vicious cycle).

Anyone know of any appetite suppressants that ACTUALLY work? Anyone tried Alli?

Are you using a cpap for the apnea? I can't believe how much better I usually feel after using mine. Last night it decided that I wasn't breathing and ramped up to tsunami strength, but when it's behaving well, it really is helpful.

Do you have any dental schools in your area? I'm not sure if ours is up and running again or not, but I know that for a long time they were a very good alternative.

I wish I knew a way to lose weight. I'm trying to be happy about holding steady right now after a fairly recent five pound gain, which puts me at least fifty pounds over a healthy weight.

I can't use my cpap. Have tried numerous times. I've been through about 4 different types of masks. It is just too uncomfortable for me to have something on my face I guess. I can't fall asleep (or can't stay asleep) with it on. The times I have manages to fall asleep, I wake up a few hours later, just enough to rip the mask off my face and go back to sleep - and I won't even remember taking it off!

About the dental schools...i dunno the answer.

I did manage to lose 10 pounds...just trying to eat healthy, cutting carbs.

updates soon!

On the weight loss.

It's too bad about the CPAP. I find it works wonders when I use it.
