Wanting to say Hello

Posted by DarkStarEtc on April 1, 2009, at 21:11:19

I just wanted to say hello to everyone- I have been lurking for awhile, and only just managed to get my courage up to finally post.

I am not in therapy at the moment- my most recent experience with a therapist was not very good, (in fact, it was pretty awful!) so at present I'm not sure how much I can contribute.

Welcome to the babble DS. In my opinion, all contributions are meaningful. You never know who may read your post, what troubles they are having and who may get something from it.

I'm sorry your last T was miserable. That can really be bad. I certainly had my fair share of really awful Ts. Mercifully, my time with them was limited and I'm glad you are out of that situation.

Seldom.

I had a couple of those too-- I still have to remind myself that they are human and humans aren't perfect-- some are even very FAR from perfect!

It's the Psychology Board, not the therapy board, so I'm sure you have as much to contribute as anyone. :)

Welcome to you :-) (nm) » DarkStarEtc

Hello Sid-
Where do I start?!
Right from the very first session, when I followed her into the room- she sat down and stared blankly into space, and waited for me to begin. I didn't know what to do, so basically just floundered around. That pretty much set up the pattern for all our sessions.

She was hung up on Freud, and kept going on about transference issues; she'd suddenly ask, "and how do you see 'our' relationship in this context?" when I was talking about something that was important to me... it used to confuse me, because I wouldn't see that it had anything to do with her whatsoever.

She was detached to the point I felt like I was talking to a hologram at times... it was so tediously BORING, that was the main problem. I just sat there going 'blah blah blah', while wondering how on earth it was supposed to be helping; me blathering away while she just sat there staring at me- then I'd pay her and leave feeling worse than ever.

It used to make my day when she'd call and cancel a session... I put up with it for about 5 months and quit, because I couldn't afford it anyway... paying to go end up even MORE depressed!
