I am filing charges against my T

Posted by HappyChaiTea on February 20, 2009, at 11:29:29

I have decided I need to do this, he has done some very wrong things and some were in no doubt were crossing ethical boundaries. Like showing me a picture of an ex client he had, telling me about her problems and then saying to me" she is pretty isn't she?" He also told me about a famous client of his at an all woman's prison, the same one that Martha Stewart went to. Plus all the other crap I have written about over the years at babble.
I don't know if I will have a gag order or not after I file, but I just wanted others to know what I am doing, others who have supported me through this whole ordeal over the years. There will be some resolution to this eventually, it might not be all I want or hope for, but I just can't do "nothing".

Have you seriously considered long term consequences and the stress involved in lawsuits as used to do malpractice and it was years and years of stress for the client till actual court if it happens as often things get dismissed. have you discussed yet for a lawyer's opinion. I do support you just want to make sure you know the long and stressful road that leads ahead. Much Love Phillipa

Good for you! That takes courage. You might want to go into www.advocateweb.com.....Lots of information for clients who have been violated by t's...

I am proud of you. you have my support!

Thanks Sassy,

I am familiar with that site, it is a good one. I feel good about this actually, I feel like I am fighting back and not just being a victim of him. I feel by doing nothing, it only lets those who take advantage of their clients, more reason to do so because post My T asked me how I was feeling, and I told her empowered and good!

Hi Happy Chai Tea (I like your new name),

I am happy to hear this. While I don't know the whole story, it seems like this is a good step forward for you. And beyond just a step - it's a really brave, big step. Keep us posted.

What are you hoping the result will be? It is often good to consider that before engaging in something that could end up being very triggering and painful for you and lasting for years. Does your new T support this action?

What all is involved in that? Is it something that you set in motion and it is investigated by an agency and they let you know the results?

If it turns out to be a hands on thing, then I would consider hiring a lawyer to handle it for you. This might free up some energy/time for school and other really positive things in your life.

Seldom

I am hoping the result will be at least a warning that he should take his job more seriously and not do the same actions he did to me to another person.

It is often good to consider that before engaging in something that could end up being very triggering and painful for you and lasting for years.

What he DID to me is much more triggering and has caused SO much pain. I fired him almost 2 yrs ago and it is STILL painful what he did and has effected a lot of my other relationships. Turning him into the licensing board feels like justice and makes him take responsibility for his actions.

I haven't done this on a whim, I have put a lot of thought into the process. If I turn my cheek on what he did, what does that say about me as a future T ? When people don't do anything about T's who do unethical things, it allows the problem to continue.

It is time for people to support the victims of therapist abuse, not help hide what they do by not doing anything about it.

Does your new T support this action?

Yes she supports me. Why wouldn't she, I am doing the right thing? My husband supports this too.

Thanks Recently,

It has been a long road with my old T, the story is all here on Babble, me posting as happyflower mostly.
I feel I am just doing the right thing, and it prevents just one person from having to go through what I have, it will be worth it. There is another T in my town who recently had their licensed sanctioned too. It just is happening too much.

Well the process is on the APA website. I have to write a standard short letter that I want to file a complaint and to who, and a short paragraph on why. Then they will get a hold of me. I think most is done by mail, unless they want to talk to me in person.
I won't get any monetary compensations, but the allegations if proved true or likely, will effect his license in varying degrees. There are more than one kind of boundary he crossed. Some are clearly against the APA rules, like disclosing formal patients to me.
I will let you know how it all goes, if I can.
