When in the week do you like to go to therapy?

Posted by Lemonaide on July 20, 2008, at 10:06:13

I normally went on Thurs. which was the end of the week for my T. But lately I have been going on Tues, and I notice my T is more animated.

Plus I use the weekend more to think about my appointment that is only days away. So I was wondering what other think? Do you notice a difference?

I know there is a difference in the time of day in his office. In the morning the sun is shinning through his bay windows, there are no lights on. But in the afternoon he has a light on and everything seems to stand out more like his oriental rug I notice more.
Okay, maybe I am thinking too much this morning. lol

Stopped going as she did nothing but keep asking me why I was afraid to be alone. Duh if I knew why would I be there so for me no day. Where is that nice young hospital social worker I clicked with? Love Phillipa

Sorry things didn't work out. There has to be someone there for you to be your T. I don't know what I would do without mine right now. Keep in touch.

in the last few months, I would go at 8AM Monday morning. My T said I was a good way to start off his week...so my appt. time was special....but now he won't see me as often and gives me strange time/day options and has said he wants to send me somewhere else and what we do is a slap in the face of psychology Ph.D. programs everywhere....I don't know what that means...

I also liked 8AM b/c any time after that, I'd have to miss work and ppl would ask where I went...

It's probably better to go in the beginning of the week so the "T" has gotten a break...but I'd probably benefit more at the end of the week...b/c I'm more stressed out....

The best T I had years ago, I would see Tuesday and Friday. The Friday was the best because it helped me make it through the weekend.

Now, who knows. I am trying to find a T, but the good ones are hard to find.

I just got the 10 am Friday spot that I've long coveted. His 10am Friday client has finally been cured. Hooray!!

So now I'm 10 am Tues and Fri.

I like that time of day because I don't have to work as hard to be emotional me. I've gotten up not that long before. But 9 am would mean leaving the house too early, so 10 is perfect.

I like him on Fridays better than Mondays. My favorite ever time was Fridays at 9 am when I used to be able to get up earlier. He was fresh and relaxed and happy. But Friday afternoons aren't all that bad either, especially if I'm the last client. He's usually even more relaxed then. He says I'm a nice last client to have before a holiday weekend.

But Mondays would also be nice, after the emotional buildup of the weekend.

So maybe every time is a good time for therapy? Except for the sugar low after lunch. Then he falls asleep.

at least I like to assume 10am has been cured.

I'm sure he wouldn't kick anyone else out of a slot. That would be rude.

Funny you should ask that. While in itself the appt time is no big deal, when it is in the context of seeing someone a couple of times a week for years and years, it can become a force to be reckoned with.

I used to have Mon and Thurs meeting times and then last year we switched to 10am Tues and Fri, same as Dinah (!). So time of day and venue (he has two offices) are the same - both good. But while I am OK on Tues, I've developed what we now refer to as the "Friday effect." I'm not sure why, it's just that the little piece of the relationship that feels abandoning really looms large on Fridays for some reason. Before we caught on to the pattern, I would frequently find myself phoning him after a Fri session to clarify something or continue a thought - OK to do but it rarely happened after a Tues session. Then I started getting anxious about even the prospect of the Friday session and for a while, didn't even want to go on Fridays at all! Almost a phobia, except I'm not sure what it's all about. I have heard of phobias about the letter 13 but never one specifically about Fridays! Actually I like Fridays, end of the work week and all, so this is specific for therapy sessions. I told him the only thing I'm in touch with about the different feels of the two sessions is that on Tuesdays, I feel like I'm swimming in a pool and on Fridays, it feels more like the open ocean. Go figure!

I don't want to spend valuable therapy time trying to figure out the reasons behind "freaky Friday" for me - I'm tempted to just change back to Mon, Thurs and call it a day...

I used to go on Thursday to my former therapist(the psychologist). But now this new one, I go on Tuesdays. I like the beginning of the week-- Monday or Tuesday better because a lot of the struggling I encounter is on the weekends-- with family/husband and sons. So I find going on Tuesday - the stuff that went on over the weekend is still kind of fresh in my head........ when I went on Thursday I'd have forgotten things by then..... and I'd NEVER like to go on Fridays... I think that would be a waste for me.(I'd surely forget things-- all the way back to the past Saturday and Sunday)

Tuesday works well for me.

-Agreed

"Except for the sugar low after lunch. Then he falls asleep."

HA...that's funny (but hopefully not true)

Actually it is. Well, maybe not actually falls asleep. But has to jerk his head up as he nods off.

Funny, in the last few years he's done that a lot less. The only difference I see is that he's more comfortable with me and vice versa. So maybe he feels more comfortable at being active in the session and thus stay awake and engaged. And I feel way more free to ask him if he'd like to get up and walk around if I notice his eyes look heavy.

I don't mean this in any sort of bad way. Ever since Monk got his new therapist, I'm absolutely struck by how wonderful and perfect my therapist is, at least for me.

My therapist who has a that sleeping disorder where you fall asleep easily, puts his foot up against the desk. ;-) I haven't seen him like that for awhile now, he is so animated I am thinking he is on something illegal. lol

He told me when he was a kid in the morning class at school which was taught by the coach, he fell asleep often with is head against the wall. His teacher came by and slammed his books right next to him. My T jumped so high out of his seat. Ha!

My T says he has do some mild self harm to keep himself awake for some clients. (like bite his tongue or pinch his leg) For me I think after I leave, he bangs his head on the desk. lol

I like to go toward the end of the week and definitely AFTER work so if I have trouble after and I need to take it easy, then it's easier to do that.

My T works T-Th, and I have the 9:0 am slot on Wednesday, which I love because I'm the first to see her that day. I like early mornings with her and the middle of the week is perfect for me. I see her every other week, or every week (I used to) when I feel I need it.

On the opposite weeks I see her, I see my pdoc at 4 on Tuesdays. That's not my favorite time because I'm usually the first appt of that day and he's still distracted from his other work. Plus I have to leave work to get there and don't like making excuses.

The best is when I see them both the same week. Then my T can help me deal w/what my pdoc has brought up.

It's a good system; I like it. Too expensive, though. The worst thing about the pdoc appt is that I have to cancel on Friday if I don't want to get charged (huge bucks that my insurance pays a pittance) and I rarely am together enough on Friday to cancel if something impt comes up, or if I decide to avoid him.

Everyon'e different!

I have been on Tuesday evenings for almost two years. Seems like my week revolves around Tuesdays as a result (a day I hardly took notice of previously - I mean, what does Tuesday get you?) *grin*

Wednesday is the day after so I'm still heavily processing therapy. Thursday I start looking forward to the weekend and think, "It's not so long until I will be in therapy again!" Friday is my best day at work for some reason - I'm very productive and often not thinking about life problems/issues. Saturday and Sunday can be all over the map - family issues/fun, emotional upheavals, creative projects, events, etc. Basically I'm distracted or engaged in my stuff and it goes by quickly.

Occasionally I have therapy on a Saturday morning which I just started recently and it always feels like a bonus. The building is basically empty and sometimes this makes it feel more intimate. She even brought a coffee cup in one time which felt really personal. I like the feeling of Saturdays, but for some dumb reason I told her I *didn't* like them because they feel too intimate. I don't know why I lie sometimes...

Then Monday comes and it's a hard day at work but I know therapy is the next day! Yeah!

The bad news is that my T is changing offices and can't offer me Tuesdays anymore... so I'm taking Thursdays. I have no idea what that will be like! I'll have to see!

Fun question. We all have such different feelings about best days.
