I can do more than I think

Posted by angela2 on November 21, 2007, at 16:40:22

I have been avoiding volunteering for like 3 days now and my dad really got on my case about it today. I'm glad he did. Sometimes I need people to get on my case and say, "Angela, you CAN do this." He said that I need to start being responsible and when I tell people I'm going to do something to do it. (I told someone I would volunteer and then cancelled)

I just wanted to post. Mainly to remind myself that I can do more than I want to, and sometimes I need to push myself. Not really for anyone to respond. Unless someone wants to.

Angela, I am guilty as charged too. I totally understand. And you know when I actually do it I do feel better about myself so maybe you should listen to your dad and do it for you :)

It is ok. Just try to go forward from here. That is all any of us can do. But I do know what you mean.....it is hard to do the right thing. rk

I usu do alot of it.
I could use the money, but working still stresses me out.
Volunteering does sometimes, but then I say to myself,'WTF they gonna do FIRE me!!!' LOL!
Volunteering is a good thing to do, and is important. W/O volunteers I think the world would come to a very rapid screeching halt.
I have been keeping away lately from my 'jobs' myself :-(
Just cuz I am struggling to be around people right now. But I need to get back into it. They are good people those I work and come into contact with. And I DO help with what I do.
I expect you do too.
Take care,
M

You can do LOTS of stuff!

I hope you find volunteering as satisfying as I do :)

I work at a homeless shelter occasionally... too occasionally, actually.

That's actually what keeps me going - that there is so little risk of someone saying, "you're not wanted here." Wow, that looks pretty pathetic written out, but it is how I feel about it. Last week someone gave me a thank-you note and I teared up, I was so grateful for the gesture. Can you imagine if one of my old bosses had ever done that? I might still be working :-(

Yup, especially at the non-profit I volunteer at. The place is half-run on volunteer "energy".

It helps me to think that someone else is relying on me for just 3 hours out of a day. That is a lot easier for me to commit to than an 8-hour shift.

homeless shelter..that sounds really interesting Llurpsie. Anywho, perhaps I'll go in on Monday. It's just clerical but they need the help.
