Midwest Center? Cognitive Behavioral Therapy..

Posted by spriggy on July 17, 2007, at 14:41:30

I am looking into buying this program; it's supposed to be good for anxiety and depression but it's SO expensive ( like $500).

Has anyone gone through it and had success?

I'm willing to pay for it if it will work; I just don't want to be buying snake oil.

It's a self help course? Like a video set?

Hi Spriggy, this won't help much but just thought I'd mention that I ordered a tape set from the center maybe 15 years ago. At that time it was geared towards anxiety in general, not CBT. I never did use the program as instructed, but even so, I found it helpful for "displacing" unwanted thoughts and states of mind. When I was feeling overcome by any kind of anxiety or depression, I would listen to the tapes on a Walkman (am I dating myself here or what), and having Lucinda Bassett's (sp?) voice and 'tips' fill my head at such close proximity -- for as long as I needed to escape from my own thoughts -- would help a lot in itself.

I don't know anything about their new/current offerings, and didn't research this conclusion, but I *think* they are well-established and reputable. Best wishes!

Thanks so much; I found one on ebay for half the price ( full set) and so far, I'm the highest bidder.

If I win, I'll let you all know if it helps.
