I did it!

Posted by Happyflower on June 12, 2007, at 20:00:27

I faced one of my life long fears of singing in public. I deceided not to tell he guitar instructor, because the attention to it, would make it harder for me I think.

Well I sang 4 different notes today several time in sight reading the music. Nobody else seems to like doing it much either. I cracked the first note pretty badly, but then I got braver and sang louder with more support. Know what? The world didn't stop with my wrong notes and nobody knew Happyflower was challenging herself. Now I feel okay, I might actually be okay to sing in class. AStep one completed!

I wanna tell my T tomrrow, but I am afraid he might make me do it for him. Yikes! I sooner run butt naked through the hallway than do that> lol

Congrats!!!! I'm so glad that went so well for you! I too am petrified of singing in public, even though I enjoy singing, so I'm jealous!

Incremental change is good. Keep taking those steps forward!

Hope your appointment goes well.

Happyflower, I'm so glad that you were able to do this for yourself. Keep singing those 4 notes, and let the others in your class be your comfort zone. There's no need to be the BEST (I know this is your tendency, and it's admirable, but stressful!).

There's something comforting in being in the middle of a pack of beginners. Enjoy that comfort, and when you're ready, your voice will tell you. Some days your voice will retreat a little and that's okay.

Can I just use your thread to say that I drove our car (a manual) for the first time in over a year, and I didn't have any incident, and I also felt secure. I even navigated succesfully!

take care happyflower :)

Thanks Sunnydays,

It was so hard, and I was so scared. I brought a water bottle with me just to make sure I wasn't dry. Nobody was really listening to us, which was good. My voice did crack, but I can at least sing the right notes. I guess that is good . lol

Thanks DInah,

Baby steps, right? Well for me this was a giganic step. I was afraid I wouldn't be continue with the group lessons, because we sight sing all the notes before we play. But I somehow idid it. Now to do it again next week!~

Great job on the driving, don't know if I could do a stick anymore. Yikes! Starting on hill, just would scare me now.

I am so glad I pushed myself to do this. I mean this is one of the main reasons I didn't want to continue with my music major and become a band director. That phobia cost me a lot.

But today is a new day, right? BUt what is getting me so f*cked up right now. Is that in order to play highter notes you have to go downwards on your strings. Now how backwards is that? It seems like the lower notes should be on the bottom! ANd the strings are messing up my nails. LOL But at least I can wear lipstick! BUttttt, I have to watch my profanity when playing , because my mouth isn't occupied, like it is on the trumpet. Oh, such challenges

I didn't say baby steps. I said incremental steps, which is a different thing entirely.

I guess it was on my mind because my recent breakthroughs didn't have much staying power, while my steps forward lasted a lot longer. So I identified with your wording.

I'm sorry if I offended. I meant to be supportive.

I wasn't offended at all. But I did read a different word than what you said, now that you posted it again. I think I need a nap, my eyes are going out.
