T's shirt was inside out and so...

Posted by Poet on May 30, 2007, at 19:36:00

I told her. She reached over and touched my shoulder and said *you know a true friend, they tell you when your shirt's inside out.*

Though I once sat through an entire session with my shirt clearly inside out and she said nothing. Hmm, what does that say?

Eee-gads! I don't know that I would have been able to say anything. How brave of you! But I sure would be wondering what kind of morning she had...or evening? :)

As far as not saying anything to you, I sometimes think they take it all in and just make note of "together" days and not so together days.

Can fashion be freudian?

Last night at group I was talking about something that is upsetting and I said, "I know nothing is totally black or white...but does everything have to be so complicated?!" Our therapist said, "I have to stop you a minute and just reflect what you said and what you are wearing...black and white (well, off-white) and that skirt...look at the lace in that skirt. Talk about complicated!" OK, fine...now even our clothing talks?

Ye, the way we dress always makes a statement about us.
As for Poet's T, I think she now felt confident that you could take the comment, that there is trust. Perhaps you might have considered it as threatening and not conducive earlier on in your therapeutic relationship. Just a thought.

lol.

I recently went to my sleep doctor with my dress rather obviously backwards - very obvious since there was a print on the front. I didn't notice till he was checking my heart or something and looked down. When I exclaimed in surprise, he looked visibly relieved. :) But I guess that's what I get for making an appt with a sleep doctor first thing in the morning. At least he got a good glimpse of what I'm really like in the morning.

Soooo.... my guess is that to them it's information? But they still ought to be able to say something after they know you for a while.

Hi Racer,

I also make fashion statements by wearing two different shoes and forcing my husband (who always seems to be driving) to turn around and go back home.

Hi Annierose,

Maybe she didn't notice, but the shirt had a pocket on it. We were talking about some heavy stuff that session so maybe she didn't want to distract me.

Hi Daisy,

Freudian fashion analysis. I think you have something there. I like to wear teal colored tops on therapy days because she always tells me I look nice in that color.

I was her first appointment on a Saturday morning and I got there before she did, so she probably just put it on and ran out the door.

Hi Penny,

The day my shirt was inside out we were talking about some real heavy stuff so she probably didn't want to distract me. Though a distraction might have been better than talking. Belated sigh.

Hi Crushedout,

She might be, plus she probably pays more attention to my facial expressions and body language. Though she does say I look good in teal, so who knows?

Hi Dinah,

I think you should have saids, *pretty obvious I didn't get enough sleep last night.* At least it was in the morning and you didn't walk around all day with it on backwards.

Hi Muffled,

I think I like Daisy's idea that fashion is freudian. Maybe my T did it on purpose for attention. Nah, I got there before she did so I know she just put it on and ran out the door.
