Does being sick make you depressed?

Posted by happyflower on April 11, 2006, at 20:26:24

Since Sunday night I have been feeling like yuck, low grade fever swollen glands, but not sick enough to be bed ridden (like mothers are allowed).
But I have noticed my thoughts are so negative and I have been cranky even to my kids. Of course a week before my period doesn't help either. It is so beautiful outside and I just want to hide under the covers since yesterday. Blah, Blah, Blah
I have therapy in a week and it will be my first since I disclosed my inner thoughts. So that is on my mind, and I can't help feeling so alone and uncared for. I am sick and does my huband give a frickin care? NO!
I don't even know why I am posting such a negative post. I just want my T to hold me, he is the only one in my real life who cares, but yet he can't really care or at least show it in real life. So his caring isn't real or at least it doesn't matter because he is just my imaginary friend. So I guess nobody cares about me. Very pathetic, I know, I don't know why I am rambling. My head hurts and I just want to sleep until next week and go to my session to see my T how cares but he isn't real, just pretend. AAAUUUGGHHHH! Life sucks then you die. Can anyone relate?

Sorry for being such a blahflower lately (nm)

I was really sick last week, hospital and everything, and it made me feel so depressed. No energy, wierd moods, uncontrolled crying. I defintely feel for you. I am sending you a hug.

Yess.. I can definitely relate. When I get sick, I find that I'm much more emotional. Sometimes I just want someone to come over and take care of me.. make me food, tuck me into bed.. things I'd NEVER allow anyone to do for me normally. I think sometimes some of our normal defenses go down when we're sick and the feelings we normally hold back start coming up. It can be hard.

Hope you're feeling better.

Yes even if I have a relatively minor cold I feel depression feelings sneaking in.

Conversely, when I am depressed, I get more colds.
