I don't want to go

Posted by gee on February 4, 2006, at 18:55:57

I have an appointment with a t here. I saw her way back in October and really didn't like her, but I haven't been doing super great lately, but I'm so scared to go. The anxiety about it right now doesn't seem to outway the benifits... if there are any.

How do you guys get through? Do you ask questions?

Can you find one you like better? I'm a great believer in therapist/client "fit". I'm not sure how much you can get from a therapist you really don't like.

why do you have to go to someone you don't like -is it insurance or something? i couldn't see anyone i didn't like, or wasn't comfortable with. what kind of t is she? maybe just tell her what's giving you trouble and see what she can do.

I see her because she's with the uni, and free for me. She's a behaviourist, and that's not really want I want/need. The only reason I keep going to her is because I've heard the other ones aren't any better.

Maybe I'll just see if she can help get me into long term therapy, and help me with study skills. It's so hard going to someone that I dont' like

ah. i hear you there. but that being said... i think some therapists really are able to transcend their theory. but that being said... that kind of relationship can take a bit of time.

yeah. it is hard going to someone you don't really like. is it that you don't really like her, or that you don't really like her approach? sometimes they amount to the same... but sometimes people will alter their approach if they see that theirs isn't really so very helpful...

most of the CBT therapists I have seen have been very behaviourally focused (that and cognitive restructuring). also very focused on my listing targets for change and therapy is about applying cognitive behavioural interventions to get the change happening.

not so helpful for me...

sigh.

i think it sucks when places only have one type of therapy on offer...

Thats how I get thru it.
Best of luck Gee!
Alex is right, lotsa T's are game to try diff. things I think, cuz the same thing don't work for everybody anyhow. Just like me raising my kids. Goto use diff. approaches with each cuz they so different.

I did it. I went. I actually felt better for a bit. She's worried because my grades have dropped so much, and I have no memory. She's gonna try and help me. Finally someone who's listening

Thanks for your support!!!!
