Does anyone?

Find that they feel worse after talking with their T or about their problems in general?

Absolutely, without a doubt, 100%.

The 8 months of therapy I had with my T were 8 months of intense hell (and sometimes heaven, but mostly not). You are probably digging up memories that you've kept buried to protect yourself. If you lived with that stuff on your shirt sleeves, there's no way you could function well, right? But when it comes out it always hurts. But the difference is, now you will deal with that hurt. And maybe, one day, it won't hurt you anymore. Because when we bury painful things, they are still there, just coming out in different ways.

I once had a session with my T on a Thursday in which I revealed some very hard and painful memories that I had never told anyone. I felt absolutely horrid the entire weekend. When I came to my next session on Monday, I told my T and she was not surprised. She said she'd expected it. It's normal.

The important thing is that you keep talking to your T about how you feel, even if you just want to curl up into a ball and not say anything at all.

ABSOLUTLY!
one person here told me when i first started therapy that when dealing with tough issues, it gets worse before it gets better. boy is that an understatement.
the trick is to know when it's getting too intense, sometimes you need to back off things for a little while till you get your bearings back, then continue on.
this is one of the hardest things i've ever done in my life. (but well worth it)
i hope you can see that too.
hang in there and come here to babble as often as needed. i don't recognize your name, are you new?
well, welcome. there's a great bunch of people here.
wish you the best

Yes.

It's like taking the bandage off a wound and poking at it.

It hurts for a while. If it still hurts next time I see him, we revisit the same thing.

Yes.

Sometimes you feel better, sometimes you feel worse - maybe a LOT worse. But it's not about how you feel in the ensuing hours, but where you're going to be in the long run.

I thought I had all the old memories out. But now, away from home, dealing with new and different things, I can't talk about my mental health at all without feeling down
