I think I feel held

Posted by crushedout on October 20, 2005, at 13:59:15

Maybe it's all the illegal drugs I've been taking, but I have this warm feeling in my body today after therapy. It's a cared-for feeling. I can't explain it and I'm not sure why I have it today but haven't had it other days.

It's very, very nice.

Is this what people mean when they talk about feeling psychological "held" by their Ts? If you think you've felt psychologically held by your T, was it something that lasted, even after the session, or is it just a momentary feeling?

I've been searching for this feeling. I hope I can hold onto it for a while.

I'm really happy for you » crushedout

Yes, I can generally hold on to the feeling for a while.

I really miss that feeling, a few sessions (and many weeks) ago, my T put his arm around me as I sobbed uncontrollably, and I don't think that felt as good as being psychologically held.

Although...

I have a very large male cousin who gives a bear hug that feels pretty darn close to being psychologically held.

Yes I've felt that before...it helps keep me going. I can hold onto it for a little while, I lose it though :-( too many doubts, uncertainties and difficult stuff in the world I'm afraid. I keep thinking you might feel a little "raw" right now - coming off the drugs and all. You might be letting yourself feel again (or just my guess). I hope you can keep the feeling for a little while. I'll give you lots of parentheses hugs if it helps

I am so happy for you crushedout! That feeling is wonderful, isn't it. I wish I could bottle it up and save it for whenever I needed it! :)
