Has anyone ever taken a break from their therapist

Posted by Angela2 on August 9, 2005, at 10:54:30

And gone to another therapist for a little while to "figure things out?" These " things" I am talking about are just the way I feel about my therapist in general. I know she cares about me and she has helped me a lot in the past, but I feel that in order to grow and be more of an independent and esteemed person I need to see a different therapist. Falls, I think what you said to me gave me an important insight into myself. Staying with my current therapist and working out our problems in one solution. I am just leaning towards a different one. What do you guys think?

I haven't taken a formal break though sometimes I have had up to 5 weeks between sessions. But I can relate to how your feeling because I'm about in the same placeas you are right now.
I can't offer much advice for you. I know I would never think about going to another therapist. But part of that is because I've been seeing mine for several years. I have to work it out with her or not at all.
It's so frustrating!! Give it some time to think about and then go with what you decide will be best for you.
