Don't you all kind of wish we could meet?

Posted by crushedout on April 24, 2004, at 12:50:08

We could have like a Babble conference or something. But *everybody* would have to come.

"Hi, I'm crushedout, nice to finally meet you in person."

I'd love to see what you all look like. I guess since this isn't going to happen in real life, I'm going to try to dream about it tonight.

(I know this belongs on Social, but since I spend all my time in Psychology, I'm really mostly talking to you guys only. You're the ones I know.)

wouldn't it be crazy? i think we'd have a blast. or maybe it would just be surreal and awkward.

Hi! Maybe this would be better on Admin, but... Anyway, you guys don't know me, but I've thought about this too. Not only in reference to meeting local PB people, but also as far as setting up a casual "support/social group" that would be less "clinical" than I gather some existing ones can be (i.e., meeting in barren donated classrooms). Colorful, anything I wanted the mission statement to be; people with a common "baseline" to their struggles but who also wanted to be able to get off-topic and just cut up and relax sometimes, in various surroundings. But alas, I am far from an organizer.

SO! Have any of you heard about this site, Meetup.com? You can propose any topic to form a group around, and the site does most of the work for you towards setting up monthly get togethers of local chapters of it "worldwide" on the same day. All for free (for a few measly bucks you can get some bells and whistles that wouldn't be necessary to the main purpose). So, how about an International PB Meetup Day (or, just a unique local support group as I was describing). You guys could all do a conference call (video conferencing??) from your local chapter of the PB monthly Meetup!

Take a look at the site. I put a link below to the "suggest a topic" page; then to the main page; then to some recent improvements (excuse the word "beer" in that one title -- guess that just happened to be the group page on which the changes got announced); and lastly, to some examples of existing topic groups.

You may see that participation and communication can be spotty with *some* groups, but that is what they are working on improving. AND, lack of a defined "promoter" and hesitance about the unknown have probably been factors. BUT -- a PB group would be strides down the road already, with so much communication and good feelings already established. It could be anything you make of it:

I have ideas in my head of what everyone looks like on these boards. I'm sure I would be in shock if I actually saw you guys!

and miss honey, i'm sure i'd just die when i saw how very beautiful you are. i'd have to have an extra year of therapy when i realized my delusions regarding my own beauty were stomped down when i saw how very charming and gorgeous you are in real life, not to mention on the boards... oh, the horror... but, it would be worth it to meet you my dear.. oh, and all done, and gabbi, oh gabbi... and falls, daisy, dinah....zen.. oh, good grief, my self esteem is plummiting as we speak. and gg.. oh dear lord, it's a good thing i'm going out tonight and look fabulous, or i'd be crying now :) (oh, and kid, we could have a fight over him :),,,, the possibilities are endless ladies.... sounds like it would be lovely, but my poor body image and self esteem could take a crucial blow you know... but, i assure you it would be quite worth it to surround myself with such beautiful people!!!

I love it! You are beautiful. My favorite is the first pic. Thanks for sharing. Can't say how it compares to my own visual of you, because I'm not as much of a visual person. My "pictures" of everyone are more abstract rather than visual. Almost like a feeling rather than a picture.

crushedout,

"Meeting" is a state of awareness... The more aware I have become, the better I see you and sense you. Plenty of times, plenty of people have met and have no sense of anyone else's existence.

Be glad for what we have from each other. It really is the best we are at some level.

Really cool point of view, Rod. (Am I dating myself here?) I agree entirely.

Gardenergirl, it feels soooo good to see you say that. That's how I "see" most people, too. Even people I meet in person. :) I told my therapist that my attempt to make eye contact was reducing my ability to "see" him the way I'm used to seeing him. I'm not sure he got it...

Wow, I thought I was kind of odd. But then I guess for people who are highly sensitive, and I assume you are, that the sensitivity doesn't have to be visual. We can rely on other senses, including emotional sensitivity to take in information.

Hope your T gets it soon.

My impression is that you are a beautiful young woman who doesn't deserve to have to experience the pain and trauma that you have had to go through. To me, your picture matches the beauty of your soul that I have seen shine through in your posts.
