Posted by hrtlm on January 30, 2004, at 19:41:41

I'm becoming more and more agitated and suicidal and dont know what to do other than go to the ospital - ive never done this before - im too scared to - i have no insurance, but since i only make 960 a month, wont the hospital help? will they not allow me in? will they kick me out soon as i say im not suicidal - i need help so badly, and i fgeel like nobodys listening!!!!!!!! or maybe im not even screaming out loud, but something has to give and im getting so worked up - how can i even tell my mom whats been happeneingf - she will worry so much - it makes me sick what ive done to myself and my life and the stress ive created for others - a poor person never gets someone really able and willing to help! ive fallen through the cracks so many times and each time, a little more of me is permanetntmly fucked up. i dont know what to do

do i call the hospital first? no wayt do i want an ambulance coming so that all my weird neighbors can see what a freak the new guy is - do i take clothes, toothbrush? contact lens solutions? do i go to the emergency room\? what do i say? will they believe me - i cant even cry anymoire because of the godadamn meds im on. im so fat, that im ugly and disgusting - i only even have one change of clothes and they are dirty - i know no one intown to even help me and bring me things or call my family or anything - what do i do?

hi there,

Can you try to find someone to be with right now, is there family around? i am worried about how you sound, I think you should go to an emergency room and tell them you are suicidal and you need help b/c you are feeling desparate. I can't help you with insurance, I don't know how it works.
If there is no one around to bring you stuff I would pack up a bag with your necessities. bring a change of clothes as well. They usually have laundry there. Don't call an ambulance, take your self there, try to find some one to come with u. They will (hopefully) admit you and take you to a unit and asks you tons of questions and then you can just sleep or whatever. They probably will discharge you when you say u are no longer suicidal. Please respond back so I know you are ok.
Don't worry about your family and concerning them, get help if you need it, they will eventually understand (maybe not right away) but right now the only person to think about is YOU. Get your self to an emergency room and take care of yourself. I will be thinking about you,

There are programs to help at the hospital if you can't afford to pay. I don't know exactly how they work, but I know they are there. Go to the hospital and check yourself in. I've been in the hospital before and I promise it isn't that bad.

I'm not exactly sure how they release people, but I checked in voluntarily so I wanted to leave the next day. But, I'm pretty certain they will keep you until your suicidal thoughts are gone and until you are ready to go. Please go. And don't worry about the money.

I'm thinking about you. Pack a bag with what you have. But don't worry about shampoo or anything like that. Just bring clothes. And some books, something to occupy your time. If you don't have clothes, they usually have scrubs...

Don't worry, everything will be OK!

i only have a family doctor that i see once every 2 or 3 months so he cann write me scripts dfor: celexa depakote trazadone anmd seroquel (not for psychosis)

if a hospital visit wont do any long term good, i can probably wait these feelings out - i have in the past - i gue4ss i just would hope that it would be the start of really getting better

I'm sorry you are having such difficulty. I agree with other posters that hospitalization seems best. Hospital stays are never for long term solutions, but they are very helpful. It is a safe place for you to get some extra support, and perhaps to have your medications adjusted. Your regular doctor may not be fully qualified to treat your problems. Psychiatrists have much more specialized knowlege about mental disorders and treatment.

Is there a Psych. Emergency Services in your area? Where I live, that is another way to get to the hospital. It is like a mobile crisis unit designed to help those in need.

Please focus on your own wellbeing and try not to worry about the details. I worry about you trying to tough this out over the weekend. Going to the hospital may just give you the extra support right now to turn things around.

Please let us know how you are,

gg

can you get a psychiatrist or someone to talk to? Does insurance cover that? The hospital could be your answer...you never know, you could get connected with a doctor to work with and they could get you in a program. It really sounds like it is a good idea to go and even a few days can make a difference. Think about it, I remeber how bad it can be and it is not fun going through it alone.

I think you've gotten good advice already on what to do if your life is in danger. I've hesitated on posting this because if you really are suicidal going to a hospital is what you must do even though its scary and I don't want to talk you out of it. You have to make that decision yourself.

If you decide that you aren't quite at the point where you need to be hospitalized you still need to ask for help. Anywhere you can. Quickly and loudly. I know the feeling that you need someone to even pick up the phone for you - that coping with anything is too much. It's an awful feeling but you can force yourself to do it.

What if you call your mother or someone else in the family? Don't worry about worrying THEM. You need them and that's what families are for. Feeling guilty about what you think you've put other people thru is another symptom of how upset you are. You can also call that family doctor who prescribes your meds and tell him you need to see him immediately. Obviously those meds aren't doing what they are supposed to be doing. Or ask him to send you to someone else - immediately. Or do both. Go in in person and sob all over his office if you need to. That sometimes gets results when a calm sounding phone call doesn't.

Good luck. There really is help out there.

Jane
