Question about dealing with panic/anxiety

Posted by Siraris on December 25, 2003, at 22:45:06

I am having a very hard time lately with my anxiety and panic. If you read in my past threads, there is a lot more information. Basically, I have had anxiety/panic disorder since I was 15 years old. I have been on medication since then (am 22 now) taking 1 mg of Klonopin and Imipramine years ago, and I am still on Klonopin and now Paxil as of about 2 years ago.

I tried doing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy this summer, doing techniques such as intioseptive therapy with the woman I was seeing. I didn't really notice that much difference in things though. I still felt panic every once in a while, and anxiety.

I'd just like to know, from people who have panic/anxiety disorder, what do you do? Do you take medication? How long have you been on it? Do you anticipate taking it for the rest of your life? Have you tried getting off your meds? What's happened?

I just don't know what to do. I am dealing with a lot of stuff (Memory loss, cognitive ability loss) and I don't know whether to say "OK I am on meds for the rest of my life" or if there's something else I can do. The hardest part of all of this, is I have no clue what my anxiety is based off of. It just happens, I could be laying in bed or sitting at my computer or driving. I have been dealing with this for years, going to therapy, I wish there were some answers.
