How to be newbie in the best way

Posted by doxogenic boy on August 23, 2009, at 14:55:08

In my first thread on the medication board, I got lots of answers to my posts, but now, no one seems interested. It is not possible for me to guess why, but my low self-esteem says it is something wrong with me, and the others' posts may be more interesting than mine. Maybe I seem to be a not likeable person.

And I think writing about my thoughts about this, will make my posts even less interesting to answer to.

Maybe I just have to wait some days so the regulars get used to me? (I saw I just got an answer).

You worry too much. Maybe no one can think of anything useful to say?

Yes, I know. I have worried like this since mid-80's, and it is still my main problem.

> Maybe no one can think of anything useful to say?

You are probably right.

Hey Doxogenicboy,

I looked for your other post (the one besides the hydromorphone (sp?) and couldn't find it. Did you post it to meds or another board?

I didn't know what your post was about--over my head as far as subject goes, so I had nothing to add. Don't worry about your personality--just post. Sometimes, I'll get one answer--sometimes more, sometimes none. Best not to take it personally, like Sigismund said. There's no predicting what will catch people's interest on any particular day.

Best regards, and welcome again, and keep posting

I checked now, and I found out this must have been my posts in threads at meds board that were started by others. I am sorry that I was imprecise.

It seems that I have problems finding something to say when I get response, and then I think, "does it look like I am ungrateful?"
Another thing I experience, is that I don't reach by far to read all the posts in the medication group and I don't agree with myself about what to read.

So I have been sitting up sometimes to 02 - 03 in the night, not being able to stop.

BTW:
Is there a way one can close the web browser, before all new posts are read, without the rest of the (unread) yellow NEW marks disappearing?

> Best regards, and welcome again, and keep posting

Thank you!
I feel a bit drowsy now, so if my post is messy, that may be the cause.

I don't know--this doesn't happen to me, or I don't seem to notice. sorry I can't help. BTW, I can spend WAY too much time reading posts :) --I've cut back a bit.

glad you sticking with babble. Have you ever started a thread w/ your own concern or question? Just curious.

I'll look for your posts,

Not exactly, unless you change your browser settings on accepting the cookies from Babble, but then you will have a different problem of having all "New" indicators - all the time, making all posts appear as new. Pretty annoying.

So...there is a better solution. Scroll down to the bottom of any board and look in the center, just under where it shows Babble time and Last visit... there is a button marked --

"use previous new indicators"

Click on that and it will restore the yellow flags on the all the posts that were new on your previous (last) visit. I use it all the time.

Hope that helps :-)

Yes, I had to give up reading all in the medication group, so now I try to find a way to read a practicable amount of posts.

> glad you sticking with babble. Have you ever started a thread w/ your own concern or question? Just curious.

I don't understand(?)
I have started these threads:

Thoughts about what to tell and when:
http://www.dr-bob.org/cgi-bin/pb/mget.pl?post=/babble/newbs/20080507/msgs/912464.html

hydromorphone in combination with six other meds:
http://www.dr-bob.org/cgi-bin/pb/mget.pl?post=/babble/20090810/msgs/912612.html

How to be newbie in the best way:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/newbs/20080507/msgs/913682.html

But that was maybe not what you asked for?

If my post is the last in a thread I think I've killed the thread. If it's not the last, I think I have been to blame in some other way, like being graceless as you say. It's like the Leonard Cohen song that goes
'Those who dance, begin to dance
Those who weep begin
Those who earnestly are lost
Are lost and lost again '

In an effort to improve my vocabulary I looked up doxogenic and found this
>The aphorism "the number of medications used for this condition attests to nothing working" may be applied at times to terminology: Psychogenic seizure, Nonepileptic seizure, Pseudoseizure, Hysterical epilepsy, Hysteroepilepsy, Hysterical seizures, Conversion fits, Pseudo-attacks, Doxogenic seizures,

I have stopped the hydromorphone and I look forward to discuss tomorrow with my psychiatrist what I can do now. I have more anxiety and less energy.

Thanks for the update. Let us know how it goes tomorrow. I'm sorry you aren't feeling better and that anxiety is up. Not a good feeling.

I'm rather fond of paper myself.

Too right. It wasn't a dictionary at all. Somehow it defaulted to 'Ask Now'. I should learn to touch type so I can see where I'm going.
