Desipramine, Nortriptyline, Vivactil+Parnate???

Posted by MRM1666 on December 8, 2011, at 5:15:51

Hello.

I've suffered from Major Depression my entire adult life. My primary symptom is a kind of ennervation, a tiredness that seems to be present most of the time.

Can anyone say if they have added to Parnate any of the following:

Desipramine, or Nortriptyline, or Vivactil? If so, did you feel more "energized?"

I don't want to add a stimulant (not even Nuvigil) because it becomes very easy for me to build a tolerance to such medications).

My current medications are the following:

1. Parnate-100mgs
2. Abilify-10 mgs and 3. Lamictal 200mg (both to potentiate the Parnate)and
3. Lunesta-3mgs

My current psychiatrist is wary of adding a TCA (the ones listed above) to my mix so I'm beginning to search for a different psychiatrist.

Thank you again.

Nortriptyline was sedating for me, even up to 100mg taken chronically, although not nearly as sedating as amitriptyline. Were I to add a TCA to my MAOI, would def start with desipramine. Not too familiar with protriptyline; the affinities suggest it's got more anticholinergic, antihistamine, and 5HT2A antagonism action, relative to NET inhibition, than desi. But affinities can be misleading. Maybe worth a shot, too. I'd be interested to hear about the results.

Hi williamockham, and thanks for your response.

Yes, I'll be speaking with my psychopharmacologist about adding Desipramine (or Vivactil) to the other medications I'm on, but I don't know if he'll be willing to do so.

Thanks again.
