Parathyroid Problems With Calcium?

Posted by Phillipa on December 15, 2009, at 20:11:47

Anyone know anything about the parathyroid gland and calcium problems related to it. I know the health board is there but no traffic. Hope okay to post it here. Could involve mental illness as well. Meds for it if off or diseases? Thanks

Let's stick to meds issues on this board

Maybe if you posted on the health board, that would be someone posting there, and others who check the board would post in response.

This board isn't a catch all for general health issues, and is directed to questions about psychological meds.

If everyone with a health problem posts it here "because no one is on the health board", not only would it keep the health board empty, this board would become a mess.

I at least would appreciate it if we kept this board to the appropriate topic.

Agreed,in fact more so is emotional support, while emotional support is a great thing, its best utilized, and actualy needed where it belongs,UH HEM THE SOCIAL BOARD,rather in constant and i mean constant, almost every post used here by some answering a med post, offering no answer to the med question but instead just a supportive comment.

I agree again it has value,in fact its a diservice to keep it from people who need it on the CORRECT board, but honestly here,i dont care if you answer my post and do so in a arrogant fashion, long as my MEDICATION qiestion was answered thats all im looking for here, not emotional support, when i brought this up however i was attacked by a onslaught of a certain persons fellow friends.

Lets start holding everyone to the guidelines as far as REDIRECTING as i believe some have never been although the premise for it is extremly abundant.

....'s posts.

OMG-now we are criticizing people for being too supportive!!!!

I've read quite a few of Phillipa's posts for a number of months now-I can see there is good intent behind them. If someone doesn't like them-they don't have to freaking read them!!!! I'm not talking about emails here, but what I've seen on this board over and over. If you had any insight, Nadezda, you'd realize the timing of this post/response was very, ummmm, timely. As an average person, I'd even guess the timing was intentional and be 99% confident of my guess....

I'd much rather come across posts like Phillipa's that may or may not be relevant to my situation or condition than some here that are passive agressive, sarcastic, or just covertly rude - which shows other intents unrelated to support....

Especially yours Nadezda-I find MANY of your posts to be patronizing, criticizing, sarcastic, or ostensibly full of anger. Take a look in the mirror!

I'm tired of people here acting passive agressive, angry, and sarcastic, relecting ill intent - but being overlooked by Dr. Bob's 'civility' rules. Gosh-get into therapy or something....take a look at yourself, those who want to project their misery upon others!

Sometimes people need woken up, and it is worth getting blocked to come out and directly state this observation! Goodbye people!

No incorrect, just because some is supportive does not or shoulld not excuse them from guidelines, one being posts should be redirected if applicable, and if a post here does not answer a medication question but rather offers emotional support then it should be re directed, you think of it as attacking the poster,i think of it as a disservice to the posters on social who can truly truly benifit from the emotional support phillipa offers.

If a new person post a med question here they need answered badly, sees a response, quickly opens it,and rather then an answer see a supportive comment,it doesent help that person much when in fact that person deserves to have all responses here address there medication query, thats the point of redirecting posts to proper places, its a shame when we try to make guide lines fair to everyone people get so angry and accuse of ill intent when all the poster is doing is trying to point out something that doesent seem fair.

Please don't post anything that could lead others to feel accused or put down.

But please don't take this personally, either, this doesn't mean I don't like you or think you're a bad person, and I'm sorry if this hurts you.

More information about posting policies and tips on alternative ways to express yourself, including a link to a nice post by Dinah on I-statements, are in the FAQ:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#civil
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#enforce

Follow-ups regarding these issues should be redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration. They, as well as replies to the above post, should of course themselves be civil.

Thanks,

Bob

when thyroid tissue is removed it is possible that the parathyroid is resected too. that has the effect that the parathormone production is insufficient. the parathormone elevates the calcium levels by activating cells in the bone, resorption in the gut and the kidneys along having an effect on the phosphate concentration.

somebody can test a hypocalcaemia by beating on the fazial nerve near the tragus (in the region of the ear). A hypocalcaemia does make little jerks like here

parathyroid hormone activates vitamin D and increases absorbtion and release of calcium

not sure what your questions was exactly, but vitamin D-> increased calcium absorbtion and use
