Praying Out loud vs. Silently And My Prayer.

Posted by SandraDee on July 22, 2002, at 16:01:40

Just thought I'd throw this out there, but in my little circle we've noticed that when we pray outloud vs. mumbling about in our heads, it helps keep us focused. It's like having an actual conversation with God, instead of sort of feeling sometimes you are talking to yourself - drifting off in thoughts about what bills to pay. I've found that when I pray out loud, I really get into it more. Praying out loud gets the emotions going too sometimes. So bear with this long post, please (as I greatly dislike the 5 part posts):
Dear Lord,
Thank you for ALL the people on PSB. I am thankful that I have a place to come and get support and talk about you, Lord. Please touch all the hearts on this board, please heal their minds and bring peace to their souls. Thank you for this day and my family, I know I'm not always as thankful as I need to be. Please help us all see more beauty in the world instead of negativity (which is common with some of these illnesses). In Jesus' Name, Amen.
God be with you all this week.

Thanks :-) (nm) » SandraDee

And an excellent use of the board, if I do say so myself.

Another thanks to SandraDee (nm)

Dr. Bob,

I'm going to assume the positive here, but I need to ask - were you being sarcastic? If so, can you explain, because I thought it was a really nice prayer...

Thanks! :)

Thanks KK, I was being sincere in my prayer. :( (nm) » krazy kat

It didn't sound like he was being sarcastic to me. I got the impression he sincerely agreed with the sentiment expressed in the prayer.

I think something is wrong with posting again.

I don't think it was my mistake after all. It added the wrong person's name (instead of the one whose message I was responding to). Or maybe I'm just confused...

Never mind. I see what happened. (nm)

I get confused by the little face he uses after a post sometimes...

I guess in this case I would see that as humor about how particularly appropriate and needed a prayer like that is in the present situation. In other words, a positive (not put-down or sarcastic) kind of humor—maybe a little ironic. That's my interpretation. :)

My humor isn't appreciated here because it often contains a tad of sarcasm. :) So, I tend to see sarcasm in others' humor. Which is fine, except that in that case, it wasn't.

Also, Dr. Bob is "ironic" himself at times, and, I think, a tad sarcastic in humor. My feeling is that if he doesn't want us to do it, I wish he wouldn't either. Does that make sense?

He's been pretty vigilant about saying "no sarcasm" lately. It's all gotten too complicated for me...

I don't agree with the no sarcasm ever rule. I think some sarcasm, and certainly irony, is okay as long as it's not mean or unsupportive. Sometimes it just expresses a perspective.

I'm sometimes confused by the rules here too (or lack thereof), and how they're applied. And some I strongly disagree with. At the same time, I see Dr. Bob as well-intentioned and doing his best. There were points, though, when things got quite frustrating for me too, so I understand your feeling.

In any case, I hope you will continue to post (unless the situation continues to feel more harmful than helpful to you).

anyway, it doesn't matter. i am gone now.

I've read very few of Lou's posts so can't comment a great deal about them. I've skimmed through a handful but my mind has trouble focusing on them. (Maybe it's an ADD thing.)

However, no one should be making unfair accusations on these boards. Maybe the best thing is to ignore those who do if arguing with them gets you nowhere. After a while it's just not worth the energy.

Sorry you've been going through so much stress!
