What's brought you satisfaction lately?

Posted by Racer on September 5, 2006, at 0:36:40

That is, what have you done lately that has brought you satisfaction? That sense of wellbeing that comes with reasonable self esteem?

I've done three things in the past few days that have brought me that feeling:

1. I've been playing with my new toy -- WHOOPS! I mean, I've been working with my new tool, and I get a very good, calm (yeah, me, calm!), proud feeling when I sew something well. And mostly, I do sew Well Enough. And it just feels so good to see those seams come together.

2. I made crab cakes for dinner tonight, and they were wonderful. Just great. And now I will have to go get more crab, so that I can make them again very soon, because they were THAT GOOD. They were, in fact, MBP.

3. I FINALLY started reading a book I've been meaning to get to for ages: "The Mistress of Udolpho," which is a biography of Ann Ward Radcliffe, author of "The Mysteries of Udolpho," one of the most popular books of its time. It's not going to be easy -- not enough source material, so how could this guy stretch it into such a thick book? But, I'm curious, and so I'll try to overlook the writer's archnesses and just enjoy... Whatever it is, just finishing the first chapter was enough to make me feel really good.

I dont know if this counts, but...

This weekend, I read all my articles for my social psychology class. They didnt have to be done until this Thursday! I got a great feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment out of that.

Also, I led my first mini-meeting with a group of undergraduates that I mentor a week ago. It was only the freshman there (so only 6 students out of 14) but I felt great about it. I left feeling good, not as though I'd just acted like a huge loser, and confident in my abilities to form relationships and help these students. I'm not sure that last feeling will last, but at that moment, it felt good.

Sorry, the satisfaction part of me is broken.
Busted. Rusted, out of order.

I thought I'd be able to think of something that's brought satisfaction to me, but
no.

I'm not sure I believe that your parts are rusted, but I'm so sorry to hear that you feel that way.

If it helps, you know I think you're wonderful -- those fish prints were brilliant, and you can decorate my bathrooms next time you come out here.

(And I owe you a Thank You note -- it's on the way. You really are the most thoughtful person I know, and I got so warm when I saw your return address.)

Thx Racer. (nm)

I dunno if it's that I can't organise myself to look for any satisfaction, or that there is none there to find. I can't think of any (I just can't think very well). I did get a sort of pleasure from reading "The Great War for Civilization", because it was so long and (quite improperly) made me feel intelligent. What would give me a great deal of pleasure and satisfaction is organising my finances. But it's so very hard to start.

A medium Domino's extravanganZZa feast. Regular crust. Fed the sausages bits to Leyna, even tho I like sausage, too. And half of it is in the fridge for tomorrow.

My immediate answer was absolutely nothing.

But I guess I'm pleased when I manage to get work done, or if I offer something no one else has thought of.

And my son brings me many smiles of delight.

I hope that includes those times when you give people like me something to think about, some insight into what's going on for us?

I didn't cry at work yesterday or so far today, but I've got another hour to go.

How pathetic is that for satisfaction?

How zen.

When you finally get it, you realize that there is no "it".

My therapist has always told me that I'd be an excellent Buddhist.

Which is actually kind of funny given later developments regarding attachment and my therapist.

I went to the beach with friends from work today. I was sick and tired of keeping up my "happy normal voice" I just wanted to go berserk and have them leave me the f*ck alone.

Instead, I went on a walk, all by myself, very slowly. and I picked at the gravel and sand and shells and I found the following treasures.

10 pcs clear beach glass
1 pc light green beach glass
2 pc beerbottlebrown beach glass

3 pc of weathered mother of pearl
4 fossils
2 translucent quartz pebbles- one rose, one amber.

It was all consuming. It gave me a kind of zoned out feeling, to have my attention focused on finding a tiny piece of glass in the waves.

Then I felt better. kind of.

Certainly, if I do that would bring me satisfaction.
