sad news about David Foster Wallace **trigger**

Posted by softheprairie on September 17, 2008, at 16:07:10

I know this board doesn't get much traffic, but I thought someone should mention this writer. I learned a few days ago that he killed himself. Some of his best-known books are "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again" and "Infinite Jest". To be honest, tho, the only story of his that I've read is "The Depressed Person", which appeared as a short story in Harper's magazine in 1998. (I'm not sure if it's reprinted in a book of collected short stories, and if so, the title of that.) I remember finding the story eerily astute, as a depressed person.

Well, I don't know if anyone will actually read this article I link to from here, but I guess I'll just put it out there. I'm a little obsessed with reading about DFW now. He didn't talk about his mental health issues much, but this is the article that got the most out of him and his family & friends, as far as I've seen. Warning: article is long, sad, & has profanity.
