Update: Vitamin C and more

Posted by Tomatheus on October 7, 2014, at 18:59:02

Hi Babblers,

It probably won't come as a surprise to those of you who are familiar with my responses to supplements that the vitamin C that I've been taking no longer seems to be exerting any positive effects as far as helping with my energy, concentration, or sleep regulation are concerned. I'll keep taking 1 g of vitamin C, along with my niacin, vitamin D3, and Abilify, but nothing more than that.

I do plan on talking with my psychiatrist about whether or not toxoplasmosis may be involved in my affective psychosis the next time I go in to see him, which will be in early December. I probably won't be very active on these boards until then, as my concentration is currently too poor to get through many of the messages that are posted here.

The best to all of you in your pursuits of wellness,

Tomatheus

I've decided to keep my vitamin C dose at 2 g for now, and I'm also taking a time-release version of 5-HTP. I seem to be noticing some kind of response, even though it's questionable as to how long it will last.

I still plan on discussing the toxoplasmosis issue at my next psychiatrist's appointment, as getting any kind of long-term response from supplements (with the possible exception of vitamin D3, which may be doing something) has not been happening with me.

The very best wishes for mood improvement and success obtaining testing from your doctor. I suppose December is not all that far away. I find the holidays taxing--it's downhill after Halloween.

Thank you for your help and support. I've got Vit D3 under swing. My physican gave prescribed a once a week dosing of 50,000 mg, and I take a daily D with K.

Take good care,

B

Hi Lamdage22,

Thank you for letting me know that the test for toxoplasmosis that you had came back negative. I may very well not be infected by the Toxoplasma gondii parasite as well, but given that my white blood cell count has been coming back as elevated since 2007 and that a T. gondii infection could explain why my psychosis came on after I took aminoguanidine, I think that discussing the issue with my psychiatrist would make sense.

Thanks for your post,
Tomatheus

Hi Beckett,

Thank you for the good wishes and for the support. I wish you luck with taking vitamins D3 and K. I really hope that you'll benefit from supplementation.

I've discontinued the time-release 5-HTP that I was taking. It seemed that I was both waking up and falling asleep later while I was taking the supplement, and the initial boost that I seemed to notice from it had seemed to fade. I'll probably continue with my current regimen (vitamins B3, C, and D3, along with Abilify) until I see my psychiatrist next.

Thanks for your post, Beckett, and the best of luck to you with finding some helpful treatments for your chronic fatigue.

Tomatheus
