EFAs and sleep/anxiety

Posted by g_g_g_unit on September 1, 2012, at 22:11:44

I know I'm probably being a hypochondriac, but I'm going through Parnate withdrawal at the moment which is causing a lot of anxiety/fatige/depression in its own right.

Anyway, I seem to have some inflammation-related symptoms (feeling sick often, brain foggy), so decided to try Perilla Oil. I notice my mood becomes a little better, and my mind will fear clearer, but again there is a lot of anxiety, agitation going on and I wasn't sure if it might be contributing.

I've had a bad reaction to high-EPA fish oil in the past (found it psychoactive, in a beneficial way, but wrecked sleep), so was just wondering if the other EFAs had the potential to be psychoactive or increase anxiety etc?

Mainly asking because I'm trying to rule out any confounding factors (also been having really bad insomnia), so was wondering if something like Perilla Oil might not be as benign as I'd like to think. I can't really tolerate Vit D or Zinc, for example (both of which a recent blood test unfortunately showed I'm low in). I take about 2 grams of Perilla Oil a day, split between breakfast and lunch.

If you asked me, I think the bulk of your problems is caused by your withdrawal from Parnate. That's a strong drug. If you are having symptoms, talk to your doctor about tapering down much more slooowly as to alleviate some of your symptoms. Also, I would tell the doc that you are using the Perilla oil and see what he/she says. It's probably okay, but I think you are having anxiety and insomnia from the Parnate. Take care of yourself, and get help if you are having difficulties.
