Which magnesium to help stimulant tolerance?

Posted by jerryTRD on August 5, 2010, at 15:56:03

I can't seem to find the site I read about which specific kind of magnesium that helps reverse/stop stimulant tolerance. Anyone know?

Thanks
Jerry

Here's the link to a thread to you started in 1997 here on Babble. http://www.dr-bob.org/cgi-bin/pb/mget.pl?post=/babble/20100720/msgs/955400.html

I also put the search terms in Google and I came up with a lot of hits mainly from other psych boards.

I am really glad you posted this question because I never knew that magnesium, or anything else, could do this.

If you come across any articles please post them and I will do the same.

I found the type of magnesium:

"I recommend Magnesium glycinate/lysinate. I doesn't affect the GI tract as much as magnesium citrate. Both work good though. The problem with citrate is it acidifies your GI tract causing less absorption of amphetamines if taken around the same time."

Apparently DXM (dextromethorphan) found in OTC cough medicines can help reverse tolerance too.

Thanks for getting the information. It's really interesting. I am going to be asking my pdoc on Friday for Adderall XR ... I hope he prescribes it for me. It has worked on my depression before ... hopefully it can work again if my pdoc is game.

So does that mean that one should take the magnesium immediately once you begin Adderall? Or do you wait until you start to develop a tolerance to it?

I would take Magnesium on a regular basis as it is simply good for your brain. So to answer your question, take it now for sure. JMO

Do you remember where you read about magnesium and stimulant tolerance? I tried to find some articles but I couldn't find any.
