Abnormal Histamine and Depression

A good website on abnormal histamine and how it affects depression. A guideline for understanding the symptoms of low and high histamine, but it is probably better to get histamine levels checked by a doctor rather than self-diagnose. Interesting.

I feel as if raising the histamine levels slightly does improve depression in myself. The trick is not to raise it too high, in my case. I find a little B12 and folic acid every other day helps in the Summer months. In the Winter, I tend to need B12 everyday for depression. So there is a seasonal trend in my depression, which may have to do with levels of histamine. I don't know for sure what the seasons have to do with histamine. I would tend to think that histamine levels are higher in the Summer than in the Winter, but I am just speculating. I don't know if there is any science behind that statement.

When you get your histamine levels checked by your doc, what exactly does he/she order? Is it a blood test? This is something I've wondered about, but not looked into. Thanks!

To be honest, I don't know where I am with histamine levels. I take a drug called Risperdal which seems to lower histamine levels and thus improve symptoms. I really need to get them checked by a doctor, but I've been putting it off. I know if I raise histamine levels with folic acid and B12, I tend to feel worse, at least in the Summer. In the Winter, I actually do better supplementing with B12. Actually, when I find out how they evaluate the histamine levels, I'll let everybody know here. I don't think doctors pay histamine any mind, unless the levels are abnormally high or low, just like with blood glucose levels.
