5HTP anyone?

Ok, I get excess rem, decreased libido, low motivation.
Takes the lows out, but sleeping is like a rollercoaster of activity.
Akin to low dose SSRI.

Anyone else give it whirl?

Hiya

Yes, I have. It's one of a heap of things I no longer take (like melatonin). I sleep just as well or better without it.

My doc suggested I take it *early* in the evening, presumably so the 5htp>seratonin>melatonin conversion could work in time.

Yeah, same here, sort of.

Decreased motivation and I feel kind of foggy... but it DOES make me feel significantly less stressed and more chill. Which is nice. I sleep good on it... no weird dreams or nothin.

I find it makes me a lot more patient and increases my memory. Like if I read something, I tend to remember it better when I use 5htp. So its a great supp, but I cant handle the foggyness. It makes me thinking very slow and makes me feel like Im in some other alternate reality.

They say that dexedrine increases serotonin and dopamine in the prefrontal cortex. 5-HTP seems to have that serotonin feel of amphetamine, but it lacks the dopamine feeling. L-tyrosine seems to have the dopamine feeling, but makes me angry. You'd think then, that a combo of L-tyro + 5htp would feel sort of like an amphetamine or ritalin, but it doesn't. It's strange. Almost like they cancel each other out. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!! If only I could find something similar to amphetamine. The closest thing to that nice buzz and clarity of thought for me is a hefty dose of kava from hawaii or fuji (I use 1/3 cup).

I started 5-HTP in the mornings about 2 months ago. Cant' say it's really made a difference. Before this I was taking an Advocare supplement called "Clear Mood" and I actually think it helped my depression. It had 5-HTP combined with some other ingrediants. I didn't order it again because it was kind of expensive but now I'm thinking it really helped. I definitely noticed a diff after I quit it.
