GLA induced nightmares

Posted by daorlando on December 4, 2006, at 3:04:45

Well, that was on of the strangest nights ever. Yesterday, late in the afternoon I took a single 1000mg capsule of starflower oil (GLA) and tonight I had the most incredible nightmare.

I dreamt I was sleeping in my bed (or was I awake and thought I was dreaming?) and that my brain has become molten lava or something, all buzzing with electricity. Each time I moved my (dream) head, I would get an extremely unpleasant electric shock, accompanied by dizziness, confusion and a sensation of by brain being dissected to small pieces. I prayed for it to stop and that I will never take another supplement again. The dream seemed strangely real and lucid and that made it even more uncomfortable and terrifying.

I've taken EPA/DHA before, but quit after a few days since I could not stand the insomnia. But I never had any nightmares with it.

Today I feel strangely composed. In a bit of a shock, but okay.

Did anyone had any kind of similar experience with GLA? What could be the cause of it?

My experience is that GLA increases anxiety level, especially in the beginning.

Increased anxiety could possibly explain your nighmare.
