Anyone tried Rozerem (sleep aid)?

Posted by cloudydaze on July 17, 2006, at 18:38:27

My doc prescribed it because it's supposed to be non habit forming and stuff...it seemed to work at first, but now it's not working so well.

I was thinking about trying melatonin. I read it's not good for people with depression and autoimmune disorders...and i have both. I dunno. I just want to sleep normally for once in my life...without waking up all the time :(

Now that I know more about Rozerem, this post belongs in the Medication board...

Rozerem really isn't an Alternative med, it just works differently. Although my doc made it sound like it was an alternative medication....

Could someone redirect this, or delete it?

Be careful with melatonin.

I tried it a few times and it made me weird out and caused panic attacks.

I talked with my dr. about it and he said the standard dose sold over the counter ( I think 1-2mgs) is stronger than what the body naturally produces.

Anyway, if you take it; I would take .25 of the pill and see how that goes.

Some people swear by it but it is a powerful hormone so be cautious.

It really is a powerful hormone. It significantly exacerbated my depression the first and only time I tried it. However, I took it at an indiscriminate time during the middle of the day. Melatonin can disrupt the body's internal clocks if it is taken at the wrong time. On the other hand, melatonin can be used strategically to manipulate the circadian rhythm to one's advantage. One use of melatonin is to reduce the effects of jet-lag. Generally speaking, phase-advancing the circadian clock improves depression while phase-delaying it exacerbates it.
