Meditation + Marijuana+Pink Floyd

Posted by PsychoPharmaFiender on June 21, 2006, at 1:00:53

Does anybody here do any meditation? Recently, I have started reading some positive thinking books and also meditating while listening to very relaxing music like Pink Floyd, songs like comfortably numb, wish you were hers, etc. I am really focusing my mind more during the day and staying more organized. Marijuana really intensifies the effect, its almost transcendental.

Agreed. I used to get totally baked and light incense, open all the windows and do vinyasa style yoga followed by meditation all the while listening to Bob Marley. Great for the anxiety, bad for the depression tho :(

Really. Why was it bad for your depression? I sleep great and wake up feeling great when I do it. What about it made your depression worse?

Had to change names as "ikikass" was offensive. Ganja made the depression worse, most likely because it's a depressant.

Maryjane plays well with meditation/yoga/taichi. I think its great what youre doing, as long as you dont smoke everyday and take 2 week breaks once in awhile. And pink floyd should be prescribed by doctors. have you heard the new gilmour solo album? Its very pinkfloydian, i recommend it. Ive been doing my relaxation excercises to it.
I think doing things like meditation when youre high can uplift the whole experience and give you something that will stay after the mj isnt in your system. (Id be doing it more but mysteriously pot stopped doing much for me about 7 months ago.)
Anyway, ive been working on meditation too. only recently have i started to be a little successful with it. do you watch your breath, or what? do you have any tips? my friend recommends using your heart beat instead of your breath so I think I might try that.

Try 'radio gnome invisible' by the pot head pixies!!!

I jest not by the way, its a genuine album :-)

For something a little tamer, I always rather liked 'abraxas' by santana. Nice album.

Hate to tell you, but I used to LOVE pot. For years, the best, on the west coast. The Humboldt County, the Maui Wowie, the British Columbia stuff. Then I moved to Chicago, and found bad batches full of scary as hell speed, formedehyde, and other truly weird things. Thinking I was going to die due to pounding and racing heart and buldging blood vessels visible on my head cured me. I was too scared to even go to an emergency room. A few other things helped cure me: I noticed that when I used to be a daily smoker out in the Humboldt Territory, I was getting dumber and dumber, lazier and lazier- and had no clue at the time. In fact, I thought I was brilliant, and wrote things down. When I re-read now, all I see is mostly retarded rambling. I still bump into people from that era from time to time now, and let me tell you, uncanny percentage of them I could call schizophrenic/histrionic/generally disfunctional now. Really messed up. Never did anything with their groovy lives, and now they are around 45 and time's movin' on. "Oh I always wish I..." "Oh I should have..."

Also- you were not meditating; you were "spacing out". Meditation is about clarity. Check out Insight Meditation (google for their website), Prairie Sanga (google), Spirit Rock, others, and see what it's really about. You can't be truely present with the present moment and see things how they really are while you drift off into your own head.

I never thought I'd find myself saying these things, but live and learn.

Thanks for the thoughts. I can relate to the "rearded rambling" as I experienced something similar when I used to smoke pot.

However, I have to disagree with you telling me I wasn't meditating. I and I only know what goes in inside my head, and only I am aware of what my concious thoughts are/were, and yes I was meditating. Also, I do know know the difference between spacing out and mediatating.

Thanks anyway.

Strange that every legit meditation teacher and yoga teacher I ever met woulds beg too differ. The drug question is often asked by students. But what do I know? Fixate.
