fo-ti and clozaril

Posted by lostforwards on December 20, 2005, at 20:33:51

I'm wondering if fo-ti and clozaril would negatively react with one another. I'm mostly concerned whether taking the fo-ti would increase or gurantee my chances of devloping the blood problem associated with clozaril.

Hi,

I'm doing alright. Thanks for asking. How are you?

The meds are working fine. I'm slowly coming off zyprexa and staying on clozaril.

fo-ti is an mao-b inhibitor. that's all I know about it.

I am not sure. Unless somebody tests fo-ti it is hard to know how it is metabolized.

I have combined it with other drugs before without consequence. It is stimulating, and the clozapine might reduce some of its effects by blocking certain dopamine receptors.

But on the other hand, it might improve cognition, and other negative symtpoms, if you have them.

You found fo ti stimulating? You might expect it to be. I have no idea if it is, I've taken a bit of it too, you'd think I'd know by now. It's in TCM sleep preparations and is supposed to be for neurasthenia and insomnia. Sounds delightfully oldfashioned.

It may have other properties too. Kava Kava, also inhibited MAO-B, but it was primarily used as an anxiolitic.

I definately feel that it is alerting and stimulating. But it doesn't feel sharply stimulating like strong coffee, more like a warm stimulation.

It makes my vision brighter.

Overall, I would consider it to be stimulating for me.

I find it helps keep me awake, fighting the drowsiness that goes along with taking the clozaril.

The potency ( and I do have what you might call negative symptoms ) is a little lacking.

I suspect I'll be searching for something stronger soon.
