What brand of Light-Box do you recommend?

Posted by SLS on January 28, 2005, at 6:45:37

A friend of mine expressed interest in buying a light-box. I don't know what brands and models to recommend. Can anyone help me out on this?

Thanks in advance.

I've been researching these the past few days. I'm debating between the one that gardnergirl refers to in her above post or the Inspiration Dawn Simulator at this link http://www.lighttherapyproducts.com/products_dawn.html

I have a feeling if I have to consciusly turn on a light, I won't use it. The dawn simulator is small, looks modern, comes on by itself and has a backup alarm. It also has the 5,000 lux that my pdoc recommended.

Wildflower,
It may have been in another thread, but you asked if the GoLite from Apollo had an audible alarm. It does not. It also does not come on automatically. So it sounds like in your case, a dawn simulator that reaches the appropriate intensity would be a good idea.

Good luck!

There is so muhc info on this -

http://www.biopsychiatry.com/dvit.htm

Maybe these sites will help.

My doc said it has to be 10,000 lux to work in 30 minutes a day. The fewer LUX, the longer they need to be used.

Your friend might try to find out if there is a SAD association somehwere near here - they'll know who in your area carries them and might even know where she might rent one to see if it does help.

The one I use says it can be used with a timer. It doesn't come on slowly, but it dose come on by itself!

wowsa, just tried this yesterday. I had to turn the intensity down, even at the recommended 20 inches. It was giving me a headache.
