Coenzyme Q10 and bipolar disorder

Posted by justplainflakey on January 4, 2005, at 19:06:53

Does anyone have any info about coQ10 and bipolar disorder? I have meen taking a new multivitamin and noticed that I have been more energetic and somewhat nervous lately. After checking the contents, I noticed that it contains a small dosage of coQ10. Could that be it? Is it good or bad? I've tried stopping this vitamin and notice a drastic let-down. Feed-back Please!!!

Some people theorieze that bipolar disorder involves a strong component of mitochondrial dysfunction.

Many vitamins, and I believe co-q10 do have effects on mitochondrial viability and operation.
It is possable the the supplement is affecting you psychologically.

I believe that it may be affecting me pshcologically. I had switched vitamins to see if I had better responce to the iodine in a differant compound because my thyroid function was low, but it could be the q10. I plan to have a new blood test for thyroid function, and in the time being maybe take 1/2 of a multi-vitamin, which would amount to a very low q10 dose. The effect is pleasant most of the time, but at times seems overwelming. Anyway, thanks for the info. I will look into that concept further myself.
