There are many active constituents, with multiple modes of activity. What are you trying to focus on, in particular?

That substance is galanolactone, but I can't find a half-life for it.

I don't know about the half life, but I had read something that stated in a Danish study, researchers testing the effects of ginger on seasick naval cadets found that ginger pills reduced the cadets' nausea and vomitting providing relief for as long as 4 hours. So that 4 hour relief may be something of an indication of half life. By the way, have you seen that Gravol now has a natural ginger formula? My mom just started using it, and she finds it excellent.

I turned a friend of mine at work on to ginger
when she was constantly suffering from nauseau (anemia related) and really bad headaches. I always had ginger tea in my desk, which I used for cold symptoms. She became like a junkie coming to me for her daily ginger fix! Apparently, ginger may also be effective for migraine headaches, however, the research is still very preliminary (according to a rather limited book I have on food remedies) as well as
for arthritis pain.

Ginger inhibits substance P, which could make it useful for migrane but also for depression symptoms.

That's interesting. Thanks. I have only ever used it myself when I have a cold or when I feel one coming on. I think I may start drinking ginger tea on a regular basis.
