Benzos - How to get off? How will I feel?

Posted by Minnie-Haha on May 6, 2004, at 19:10:18

I have a BP2 DX, but last fall started having severe nausea, anxiety, and insomnia. (Anxiety has not historically been a debilitating problem for me.) I have taken a low-dose (0.5mg) of Ativan every night for almost 7 months now. Every time I try to stop, I wake between 1 and 4 a.m. with anxiety and rarely get back to sleep... and then only fitfully.

Any recommendations on how to get off these d*** things? I know it's a low dose, but I don't like having to take them. They make me a little foggy during the day.

Magnesium, valerian, kava, NIACIN, theanine, relora, melatonin (at night).

These are a few of the meds that should ease things over.

Niacinamide with inositol and GABA and chelated magnesium, plus large quantities of vitamin C (in 1-3g doses). Vit C acts as a sedative in large quantities. Niacinamide works with inositol and GABA to fill benzo receptor sites, although the feeling probably won't be as strong. Taurine is also a very calming amino acid.

Lots of people think amino acids are really really helpful when withdrawing from meds as they can have a very powerful effect, and different ones can be used for pain, low dopamine, low serotonin, too much or too little of any one neurotransmitter.
