which suplement instead of an anticonvulsivant ?

Posted by Francesco on December 1, 2003, at 10:00:20

My pdoc would like me to try an anticonvulsivant as a first step to target my ADHD syntoms. After readings and chats with other fellows on this board I convinced myself that he should be right (I'm likely to have so-called Ring of Fire Adhd).

Before slipping again toward the meds' world I would like to try first some supplement alternative. Many people suggest GABA but reading the posts it doesn't seem a reliable amino. What about l-theanine ? Any comment is welcome

I have tried GABA and its not that reliable as it doesnt cross the brain barrier, try picamilon it has niacin init as well as gaba. Niacin crosses the brain barrier thus the gaba gets to the place its needed.
L-thenaine is good, very mild but slightly relaxing.
Have you tried tryptophan?
i want to use it for anxiety and im waiting for some replys.
thanks

If I take GABA plus niacin would be the same ?
I'm asking because I don't know if I manage to get picamilon.

In these these day I'm trying tripthophan and I suspect it can be useful for anxiety. I don't know it for sure because this is not the reason for which I'm taking it. However it makes me sleepy so I think it could help you ...

Have you have tried an SSRIs before ? If so and if they helped your anxiety problem triptophan is likely to help you.

Hope this helps

No, Picamilon is GABA bonded to niacin, not just mixed with.

Sorry, that should have been » francesco (nm)

yeah in picamilon it is specially bonded (so they say) so taking just gaba and niacin wont have the same effect.
My doc gave me prozac, i took one and thought ''no i cant do this'' glad i did, i know they can be a life saver for some and thats great but i cant bring myself to go on them, just not a good idea.
Hope tryptophan helps otherwise im in a mess! i want to do CBT but cant afford it as i get £40 a week from benefits and my dad takes that all for rent! (arse)

Do you mean that you didn't have any effect from it ?

try picamilon it has niacin init as well as gaba.

Did you try it ?

If your p-doc suggested Prozac maybe triptophan is worth of a trial. Do you have only anxiety or anxiety AND depression ?
