How Bout A Board For Pets?

Posted by Phillipa on January 31, 2014, at 12:13:13

Dr Bob I see a lot of posters have pets. We love to talk about them. And at times they get sick. I find myself googling a lot about pets and medications. Would be nice to have a place for others with pets to also discuss the joys and bad time of having pets. Phillipa

I'm open to the idea. Anybody else interested? Anybody want to moderate it?

I like the idea. I have a cat & I just discovered a lump under his armpit. He's seeing a vet tomorrow. I'm scared that it's cancer, but hopefully it's a benign cyst that can be treated with antibiotics. I love my cat, Bigboy, more than anything in the world.

VBS cancer is much rarer in cats than dogs. I found this out via google. Hence this is exactly the type of board and questions. I had in mind. Did your cat see the vet today? I have two sick ones now. One dog one cat. One with borderline Cushings on Ketacazole and regular antibiotic. My pup will be on the ketacazole indefinitely. And special anti-yeast baths. Do you know anything about cats and swollen painful anal glands that yes have been expressed? Phillipa

Alex what a wonderful idea. She is very good with pet issues and also knows how to accept some bad outcomes with animals. She could also counsel. Great idea. Phillipa

Phillipa, he saw the vet a few days ago. It was a puss-filled cyst that the vet drained. He's doing much better. :-)

Congrats glad to hear was a cyst. Yes draining will close and heal it. Any antibiotics for a short course. You must be so relieved. Our pets are our babies. Phillipa

I think we should make this the pet board.

My little feline just had to have a procedure at the vet. Her little leg is shaved where they had to find a vein. Poor thing.
:-(
And poor me, she's not covered by my health insurance! :-O
Thankfully, fur face is perky and doing well now.

Glad your baby is okay. What was initially wrong? One of my small pups has borderline Cushings. I worry so much about him. Our fur babies are healing and love us unconditionally. Phillipa

Lymphocytic plasmacytic stomatitis
It's a severe inflammation of the mouth, required almost all of her teeth to be removed.
She looks happier now.

Bob, I think the idea is really awesome. For many of us, cruel mental illness is kinda saved, as a result of having our loving, sweet animals. In my Dad's nursing home, they have "therapy" dogs visit often, and I think pets can play a leading role as a viable therapy for *anyone*.
