Why this site has become a nightmare for me

Posted by linkadge on December 3, 2009, at 16:57:56

Hi, I have used this site for a long time. Probably about 10 years now.

What I am realizing is that I had made posts a long time back for which I didn't understand the implications. For instance, I had made the mistake of including an email address in an posting. At the time of the posting I had no clue that this information was going to be so easily searchable on Google.

Now, instead of helping me, this board has become a nightmare - I won't get into the specifics of why and how. I wish there was some way to have my username blocked within archives - or to request that specific posts or threads be deleted.

If for any reason your username is compromised, or your username becomes linked to a real name then your whole life's emotional story is there like a book for anyone to read. And now, becuase I made the mistake of posting an email address within a few psychobabble threads (without really knowing at the time that these archives would be stored for the world to see) I have problems.

This site has been a curse for me lately. If you think you can come on a site to get confidential help and support for sensitive issues think again. Everything you say is recorded - possibly forever in the babble archives.

I'm really sorry. I remember when peeps used to post email addy's here. Amazing how times have changed, eh?

I understand that it might be a maintenance nightmare to allow deletion of indiv posts. But, why not allow, as they do at PsychCentral, deleting an entire user account and all associated posts??

Wishing you some peace.

Linkdage, if you can find the post with the information in it, I think one of the deputies can delete the personal information for you. I know that one time I signed my real name and a deputy removed it for me. It's worth a shot!

You are right, but there are no active deputies right now that I am aware of...

Link, I would both email AND post to Dr. Bob here, with something as dramatic as you can think up in the subject lines, possibly upping your chances he will read them both sooner. If you can point him to posts with email addresses, I am sure he would delete them.

well...relatively sure. Dr. Bob does not seem to me to be quite the same Dr. Bob as he used to be...but this should not have changed...

I will, and you don't even have to be really dramatic...

I didn't mean it in any bad way, which I hope you know.

Dramatic was a poor choice of words, perhaps, but I just meant to convey that you may get a lot of email, maybe even a lot from Babblers, and it could help to put something eye-catching in the subject line....
