Babblemail, babblemail, and more babblemail

Posted by All Done on February 13, 2005, at 0:17:47

Dr. Bob,

Is there any possibility of adding the option to save our sent babblemail?

Thanks,
Laurie

Yes please. And the ability to send attachments would be great.

It would be great if the new indicators worked according to our logging on rather than being saved on the specific computer. I use different computers so find new indicators to be fairly useless...

Oh yes, please, Dr. Bob? Could a copy be sent to our sent folders? Or our in folders? I'm not picky.

My OCD acts up something fierce when I can't check my sent email.

Having it sent to your "sent mail" folder would be quite difficult, as its actually being sent from the Dr-Bob.org server, not your email server.

But setting up CC to the senders email, so a copy gets sent as an email to your inbox, should be alot easier for him. But, it would have to a BCC (blind carbon copy) so that the receiver doesn't see your email address.. And actually, the person you are sending it to would need it to be a BCC for them too, so you don't see their email address.

So, its not quite as simple as it first looks! But not impossible in my eyes.

Hey,

Thats already set up.. But for the life of me I can't find it at the moment.. I should start using that as I check babble from 3 or more computers as a rule and remembering which of the "new" tags I have read is a nightmare!!

If you click the "extras" link, next to the FAQ link, its in there (heres a link direct http://www.dr-bob.org/cgi-bin/pb/extras.pl)

Sigh. Nothing is as simple, is it?

But it sure would be helpful. I always worry that I somehow, although I know it's impossible, sent the babblemail to the wrong person. :(

I did say I didn't think it was *impossible* Dinah.. Just mentioning the technicalities that I could see..

As long as Dr Bob uses a BCC field in an email to copy it to both parties (the sender and receiver) I can't see why it couldn't be done.

And you simply need set up a new folder in your email, and move all of them into that folder to keep them!

Just a suggestion, as an interim measure, until a technological fix can be found. Perhaps you could select and copy your babblemail text and create and send an e-mail message to yourself (not babblemail) with the subject line indicating something like "Babblemail to ______". It means an extra step when babblemailing, but it would supply you with a record of what you sent.

Dr. Bob should engage you as a technical advisor! Since you know both sides of Babble.

The exchange rate is too bad to earn in $'s *lol*

Only teasing.. I'm just pleased to offer advice on this kind of thing where I can.. I find it sooo hard to offer emotional advice, I feel this way I am still offering things to PB.

Does that make sense?

I don't know if sendmail has a bcc option. But it could just be a separate babblemail back to the sender. I guess whether to do that would be another setting, which would be off by default?

It shouldn't be too hard, but I'm working on something else right now. Sorry if posting gets turned off from time to time. Thanks, as always, for your patience,

A serious oversight in Babblemail

Dr Bob, when we compose posts, we are given the opportunityt to review the post, make changes, check our spelling, make certain the post is being directed to the correct party or responding to the correct party - we get all the chances we need to be certain of what we're saying and to whom it's being said.

Babblemail, however, is a one time deal. You compost (oops, I mean COMPOSE) the message. In haste. In irritation. and voila! "your babblemail has been successfully sent".
Um. To the right person?
Um. Er. Was it civil?
Oh, jeez. Did I say what I just think I said?
And who have I said it to?

I am thinking, hoping, crossing my fingers... that the current SNAFU here is due in part to the immediacy of the Babblemail configuration. And I am thinking, hoping, and crossing more digits - that either this feature be deactivated for the possible reasons cited above, or be improved upon, to make the possibility for errors like that more remote.

Compose in Word. Then you can save a copy for you. Then click on the posters name to open the Babblemail link that way you should get it to the correct person.

It's a good idea, sometimes I save my replies on my e-mail server, by cutting and pasting them over, it's still easy to hit the wrong send button though.. Especially when you haven't slept all night because your mind is all buzzy from the conversation you had with Alexandra the night before!! So reall˙ it's all your fault : )

1. Has anyone ever sent a babblemail to the wrong person? The issue is clicking "reply" in your email program, not putting the wrong poster in the "recipient's posting name" box on the babblemail page, right?

2. I suppose there could be a preview step. But it's like email. Does your email program have a preview step?

I haven't done it to my knowledge. I thought it was a problem in composing and sending the original babblemail message rather than replying to someone else's.

> 2. I suppose there could be a preview step. But it's like email. Does your email program have a preview step?

No, with email you usually have a record of what you sent to whom. Babblemail is not something we have the ability to keep track of. Composing the message in Word doesn't really help unless you write it like a letter, with "to", "from", and any "cc's". But then you still have to send the mail to the correct people...
