Toph this is so interesting.
I too have wondered how many Dr. Bob's there were.
I also at one point thought Dr. B was a computer program.
Dinah was very clear that wasn't true.
I have been on this site for one year and really don't have a deeper clue as to who Dr. B is.
Sometimes I ponder about a particular poster and wonder if my image of the person is truely who they are.
We are just names and could be anybody in the flesh.
I have pondered that frequently.
this is an unusual environment....the internet.
I like that I can wear anything, eat while posting..etc.
this calls on only a part of myself to be present.
I don't have to travel, pay money...
the only rules are: to be supportive and kind.
Gosh I have learned ooodles from that.
One year babble b-day coming up and I am a changed woman because of conversations like this one.
So thank you Toph....
very interesting question.
goodmorning.

Good Morning Jai,
From what little I know of Bob, you are proof that he has not created every persona on this site. By that I mean you are such a kind, positive voice, not because of rules, but because you seem to really care about everyone.
I also have to admit that for what Bob does, he does it well. I think I frequented the principal's office as a kid in part because I kind of thought he was cool.
But, hey, Jai, doesn't that picture of Bob look like he's admiring his ant farm?

I like that image. Sure I a can be in an ant farm setting. We all work together...nice.

good morning, toph! :)

well that's a relief! i can assure you that i am flesh and blood, not a figment of bob's imagination!..oh, by the way, thanks for the complement about the name alesta (if you meant it.:)). i invented the name for a story i wrote in the 6th grade. i think the name is starting to take off, though, due to the PB site's vast exposure. i went to register at yahoo groups the other day, and there were 2 other alestas. i was shocked. i had to pick alesta0. i just hope people don't assume that all the alestas out there are me (because the name is so rare...).

take care,
amy :)

Yeah, but I'm afraid when Bob reads this he will get out his magnifying glass!

I don't create alter-egos to amuse myself -- or for other reasons. Please be careful when posting paranoid thoughts because others may feel accused (for example, of being alter-egos). Thanks,

Bob

what an awesome name. anyways, i think your thought is very cool. you could be right, BUT i was thinking maybe when people get banned from the site for a week or so these people are really Dr. Bob and he purpously grounds them so he does not have to post under that name for a while, you know to give himself a break. one thing is for my lexapro group is awesome and if dr. bob is one of them then he can sure hang with a bunch of girls without being detected. even when we talk about periods and stuff. haha. dr. bob may have an army of people that spend all there time posting and posting. cause i dont think bob would be able to do it alone. thanks for adding this thought, it was fun to write about.--jess

hey, i wonder if dr. bob is really a scitzafrentic. i hope you can read that cause i know its spelled wrong. maybe he is in a mental insitite and he has 20 different personalities and 20 different posting names for each one. like one is a mean poster, one is the caring poster, one is addicted to drugs, one is sucicidal, ect. i know it is pretty far fetched, but if you think about it, it makes sense. the internet is a way to voice any personality you want. think about it. hey, i could be the personality that thinks about crazy things like this. maybe each different sbject link on the website is a different dr. bob. dr. bob may be dr. barbara. do any of us really know? ofcourse i am not serious, but its cool to let loose with your imagination sometimes.---jess

Ok, I apologize, Bob, but I'm not exactly sure for what. Your post appears to me that you are miffed at my spoof. I used the word *paranoid* as a figure of speech not a clinical term, sort of like, "I got this wierd thought..." Maybe we shouldn't use clinical terms flippantly here, so if that's what you mean, OK.
You know, you could actually do this cyber dollhouse thing where you play different characters and it isn't a bad thing that I post my thoughts about that possibility. As far a accusing others, well, I'm glad I didn't mention any names because I wasn't sure if others would think it amusing of me to do so. The way I see it, being discribed as an alter-ego could be a compliment.
Anyway, I'm glad you cleared things up about not creating alter-egos. I'm curious, did you get a visual and chuckle even a little about the ants?

how can anyone with alter egos feel accussed, she never said anything bad about them. your the one that makes it song bad by accussing her. she was not making fun. what do you mean about being accussed? that does not make sense to me. accussed of what/ and she was not talking about all alter ego people, she was talking about YOU specifiacally not the entire alter ego popualtion. once again, what do u mean accussed?i looked the word up and it does not relate to her post. have you ever thought you may be making someone feel accussed themselves by accussing them of doing it to someone else? hmmmm?

well, thanks, newwife, if that comment was directed to me. :) but i didn't start this whole topic. you're real sweet, though.:)

<You know, that's not the first time that's been thought.. : )

yes, i know..the thought of dr. bob impersonating others had popped in my head before of course, but i knew from an intuitive, psychological perspective that it wouldn't be rewarding for dr. bob to impersonate other people, especially if it involved taking the time to create interesting, intelligent people. after all, he wouldn't get to take credit for his own ideas and personality..my fascination with what toph wrote was not with the idea of impersonation itself, but with the fact that he actually fully believed this delusion at that time.

audra, eh? i always wanted to name my first daughter audrina and call her audra. instead of going through childbirth, could i just adopt your daughter? or, perhaps we could get married, and i'd have my own legal daughter with that name as well as a talented companion
(and don't worry if you're female, i won't hold that against you but we'd have to discuss my extracurricular activities prior to the wedding).

i do enjoy reading your posts though. guess that's what i was trying to say (oh and i love your daughter's name)

kk I have grandchildren, interested???? (nm)

Made me blush. Before we get kicked out of here and told to hightail it over to social, I have to confess that Audra is my step-daughter, so I can't claim to have named her. I vaguely recall that my wife said that she heard the name on Dallas, Bonanza or something. Other people have the name:
http://theantidote.net/
My Audra is as beautiful as her name. I raised her and love her tremendously. She and my 2 kids get along great, though blended families are really challenging. Someday, just hearing the name Karen will be music to little Audrina's ears.

> I had a flashback to a past psychotic break I once had. I remember being in the grips of a meglomania and becoming terrified at the delusion that I was God, the only person alive - that everyone else was a figment of my own cruel imagination. Then I got to thinking about the Faith Board and wondering if an omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent God put evil people in the world simply for amusement and to spare himself from the boredom of a "Pleasantville-like" Eden. And then I got this paranoid thought that some of the posters on this site are not whom they claim to be, rather they are actually Bob who has cleverly created alter-egos to amuse himself and stir up the pot in his own little cyber world.
