Can we wait for Dr. Bob to explain?

He has seemed in fine fettle in recent posts and emails. No reason to think that's changed.

I've emailed him asking him to come here and clear things up, just in case he checks his emails before he checks this board.

hey slinky:)

Em emailed me the gif. It flashes for a bit, but when it stops flashing, it's on the 'bad' picture. I really can't see what the black object is, with any certainty, but gosh darn it looks like the handle of a knife.

It's hard to comment on it with the flashes I've seen.

OK, now I'm really confused

I'm at home at I don't get the flashing bad photo anymore. Did he fix it or am I just lucky?

yeah, it's either a knife or a gun..whatever it is, it's some kind of weapon..the message is the same...it's meant as a suicide gesture, this is clear..

no, he didn't fix the bad photo..... (nm)

It stops flashing after about 5 times until you refresh the page. Then it's back.

This is really disturbing. I actually leaped back in my chair.

Maybe someone hacked the file and threw this in.

I saw it when I reloaded the page. It looks like a couple of books are hitting him in the neck, but it doesn't look like a suicide image to me.

I bet if we saw the whole picture rather than this close-of up the books hitting him and quickly knocking his head to the side, it would make sense to us. As it plays now, though, it lends itself to too much misinterpretation. My guess is that the effect was unintended but I think it should be replaced ASAP!!!

Oops, sorry about that! It was books/paperwork, I was just being silly. It should be just the first picture now. Sorry if I worried some of you!

I looked at it and I had my husband look at it (without telling him what it was first). We both saw a book, maybe a date book, and papers.

Much easier to see when it's not flashing.

Thanks for quickly explaining Dr. Bob!

The image that looked to me like a man with a gun to his throat was stuck on my computer for a good 10 minutes. No flashes, no gee he didn't mean it. Yeah, I don't watch the news because I trust shrub to lead us honestly and I have more important things to do. I know shrub the awol liar will take good care of us. And 20 years from now I can say I've found great wisdom in the writings of people who were slaughtered while I wasn't watching the news. Vote people! Be informed. Watch the gd news. The world isn't safe and it won't be until we take the time to MAKE IT SAFE. Trust less, think more.

whether or not it was paperwork, **it was meant to look like a weapon**. there was nothing silly about that image! the implied meaning is the same..that picture represented a suicide gesture! i have had enough of your games, dr. bob..i am astounded at your "sillyness"! you seriously need some emotional help...

There have already been at least 3 different interpretations of what was on that image posted here, knives, a gun, a razor - I really don't think there was a purpose behind it. Interesting what people saw in that flash, actually.

Because in this instance, it *wasn't* a gun to his head per Dr. Bob. And per my own and my husband's eyes. Unless you think Dr. Bob is lying? Why would Dr. Bob lie? Why would Dr. Bob put up a picture with a gun to his head? Trusting people who have proved themselves worthy of trust is a very intelligent thing to do. Waiting to find out what people meant rather than assuming you know isn't stupid either.

Trusting and thinking are not mutually exclusive.

And yes, I've said I don't watch the news, but what does that have to do with trusting Dr. Bob? Or, for that matter, with voting for George Bush? Do you assume you know how I'll vote?

Have I distressed you somehow in the past? I don't recall anything offhand, but this post was in answer to mine, I was the one who stated that I trusted Dr. Bob, and I have stated that I don't watch the news. If I'm incorrectly assuming this post directed towards me (which is possible since there was no name attached), I apologize. But if I have inadvertantly offended in some way, perhaps we can work it out.

The theory which is mine. This is my theory. This theory, of which I about to describe, belongs to me. (apologies to Monty Python)

I think it was a test to find out what each of us would see in a "flash card" type of picture, and how it related to our dx's. Or to see who would be a good witness on the stand. One or the other.

In reply to I have a theory, posted by partlycloudy on September 8, 2004, at 20:15:34

I'm going to reply seriously, only because so many people seem to have this lab rat image going with Dr. Bob.

Dr. Bob wouldn't do that. He wouldn't run a Rorschach test on the members of this board. Especially not in such a way as to cause alarm and distress.

Dr. Bob does have a playful side. And he's used the imagery of paperwork in his photos before. I'm guessing he really does feel overwhelmed by paperwork. Perhaps feels way behind. And was sharing that with us playfully. Seems like something I'd do at times at work when I feel stressed out and overwhelmed.

I'm sure he's as distressed as anyone that people were upset by the image. If you do art or photos and you know what was in the picture, you just don't see it the way others who weren't there when you took the photo and didn't see the whole picture, just a bit of it, see it. You know what was in the photo, and you can't see it with fresh eyes. So when someone points out what it looks like you can be completely surprised.

I know that happens with my posts sometimes. I know what I mean when I write them. Then someone gets offended and I go back and look and say oooooh, I can see now how it might be taken that way. But before someone else pointed it out, I could have read it a dozen times and not seen it.
