good ole Prozac

Posted by Christ_empowered on May 29, 2019, at 19:49:09

I take 20mgs with 20mgs/Abilify. I thought the abilify would need to be lowered a bit, but the psych nurse practitioner was all "no, you're fine," and I didn't want to be one of -those- patients, so...I've been rolling along with it.

maybe 2 months in, I find that I'm doing...better. my mind doesn't loop as much and the loops that do happen aren't as intense, aren't as emotionally charged.

adverse effects seem...surprisingly minimal, so far. weight loss, but its more like...I'm more cognizant of what I'm eating, when to eat, when to stop eating...sounds basic. I'm wondering now if I've been severely depressed for a while, actually.

when and if i need it, i do have low dose gabapentin. its not...the best remedy ever, but it gets the job done.

so, there you have it. I'm finding substantial relief from the "It" drug of yesteryear. :-)

That's good. Are you crippled sexually? Some people don't care. I do. That's why I take very little Venlafaxine.

no, im not, thank goodness. of course, I haven't been on it very long. i read somewhere that 'atypicals' can help counteract some of the apathy and such from ssri drugs...i didn't get the technical details, but it seems that between blocking some receptors (neuroleptics) and blocking reuptake (ssri), one ends up with broad symptom coverage and less apathy. and so...

maybe that applies to sexual stuff, too? abilify isn't bad for sexual stuff. no prolactin elevation, minimal sedation...i never had a problem. maybe it'll help take the edge off Prozac, in that respect? -fingers crossed-

Hi Christ-empowered,

the neuroleptics never influenced me sexually. Serotonergic meds do, however.

So you are boosted by the Prozac? What do you do with the new found energy?

hi. i don't know if 'boosted' is the word. its more like...wow, I must have been -intensely- depressed and anxious until...now, basically.

im writing more and looking into volunteering, which...id thought about before the Prozac, but now I guess between not wasting so much energy on severe anxiety and also getting better sleep (fewer interrupted nights)...

I can do it, with far less difficulty. the volunteering still makes me kind of...fearful, because its kind of damned if you do, damned if you don't for 'mental patients' in my area...but I've got more energy and I'm calmer, so I can lean more towards do, even if it gets rough, as opposed to...whatever one calls what came before.

:-)

How long have you been taking Prozac?

I have been taking it for just nearly 30 years.
A majority of that time was at 40mg daily, but have been taking only 20mg for the past few years.
I've tried going back up to 40mg since I feel I need some boost, but it seems like I almost get a little return of depressive symtoms when I bump up.

wow. that's long term. i assume its been good to you?

ive only been on prozac for...2 months, maybe. I plan on staying at the 20mgs dose for as long as possible.

i wish you well. have you discussed perhaps adding something, instead of increasing the Prozac dosage? your psych person should have ideas...
