Zyprexa Anxiety mode of action

Posted by meltingpot on August 7, 2018, at 8:06:33

Hi,

What is Zyprexa's mode of action on anxiety. This drug has helped me no end over the years. I take it, it takes all of the physical symptoms of anxiety away, I don't have any come down with it, I don't feel groggy after I take it. In fact I feel energetic and my mood is brighter.

Touch wood it will always affect me the same way.

I've noticed people say on some sites, you should not take this drug for anxiety but in my experience it helps me with anxiety more than any other drug I've taken and I have no horrible side affects with it, other than a kind of detached feeling the day after I take it.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows what it's mode of action is. What receptors is it hitting when it alleviates the physical symptoms of anxiety? The tightness in the chest, the nausea, the tingling in the back of the neck etc.

Denise

hi. its a sedating, mid-potency 'atypical' tranquilizer. zyprexa does the same thing as the old drugs, thorazine or haldol, but without the same level of drug-induced problems, such as muscle stiffness, twitches, causing or exacerbating depression, etc.

its combined with prozac in symbyax, which helps a lot of people. by itself, zyprexa doesn't work as an antidepressant for many people, but combined with prozac, there's less agitation, more response, etc.

i take zyprexa and it does bring some anxiety relief, it attaches partly to a benzodiazepine ring in the brain, google olanzapine it somewhat is related to benzo's because of one little thing it has attached to it, that's why it brings anxiety relief, and also dopamine and serotonin reducer

Hi,

Thanks for your response but from doing a google search Zyprexa only very mildly hits GABA receptors so I'm not sure why you say it connects to the benzo ring.

Can you clarify?

Denise

"Yes, you could say that Zyprexa has a benzo in it ... ZYPREXA (olanzapine) is an atypical antipsychotic that belongs to the thienobenzodiazepine class. The chemical designation is 2-methyl-4-(4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)-10H-thieno[2,3-b] [1,5]benzodiazepine. The molecular formula is C17H20N4S, which corresponds to a molecular weight of 312.44"
