Am i allergic to Seroquel or another med?

Posted by Lamdage22 on May 8, 2018, at 1:06:20

I have real bad congestion at nighttime when i take the 400mg Seroquel. In the morning i am not congested. Is Seroquel more likely to cause allergy than Zyprexa?

I wonder what this is.

Your experience with Seroquel is not uncommon - nasal congestion. My first guess is that the congestion is due to NE alpha 1 receptor antagonism. You might want to experiment with lower dosages taken at night. You really are on high dosages of antipsychotics. Have you ever thought to replace Seroquel with Remeron? This should take care of insomnia. You can then replace Zyprexa with perphenazine for anxiety and delusions if these things are problems.

Hi Scott, thanks for your insight. I will call my doctor in an hour. I think he is leaning more toward eliminating Seroquel (not Zyprexa), anyway.

I will let the doctor decide i think

My experience has been that a lot of meds/dugs over time can contribute to a reactive inflammatory state. Allergies being typical. High IgE for example.

Which drugs affected you the most? How did you determine your inflammatory state?

Thanks.

why would perphenazine be better than Seroquel or Zyprexa?

If we are talking OCD, which one of the 3 is best in regard to OCD?

Well, that's a good question but I don't really know. Benzos perhaps?

I do mean long term, over decades.

Of course any drug will have more immediate effects one way or the other.

Perphenazine does not produce weight gain or diabetes. It is good for anxiety and delusions. I would call it a medium potency antipsychotic. Another option would be to cross over from Seroquel to Saphris. Saphris does not produce weight gain and is supposedly good for both depression and delusions. I don't know about anxiety per se, but it does block 5-HT2 and other serotonin receptors. This might confer some anxiolytic action.

Regarding OCD, Zyprexa has been reported to be helpful as an anti-obsessional. I could find nothing that would lead me to believe that perphenazine is as helpful.

Can you describe what you experience as OCD?

Is there any way to get you off of Effexor and on Luvox? You could bring the Luvox on board first and then try cutting down the Effexor more rapidly.

Hey Scott, i did try Luvox and it slows the metabolism of all other drugs. I was very sedated.
My Dr does not want to do quick changes since i have been relatively stable for several years. We dont want to tear that down. Since i take less Seroquel at night because of the nasal congestion from it the Dr prescribed Prothipendyl so i will still be able to sleep.

I need the Seroquel to sleep you know? It is more sedating than Zyprexa at these megadoses.

I will let you guys know how i do on Prothipendyl.

How high is the TD/movement disorder risk with high dose Perphenazine? More than 1 in 10? 1 in 10? 1 in 100? 1 in 1000? How does it compare to Seroquel and Zyprexa?

Thanks

Interesting choice. It sounds like you have a good doctor. Good luck with it.

Prothipendyl seems to help my sleep

It seems to do the job. I took less Seroquel, i could breathe through the nose and i could sleep.

How likely is it to be allergic to a med?

My pdoc went from 1000mg to 900 mg with the Seroquel (200mg instead of 300mg Seroquel prolong in the morning).

No more congestion. Thanks for the responses.
