swtiching to Nardil from Effexor

Posted by porkpiehat on November 25, 2016, at 21:59:40

I started effexor xr to come out of a nasty slump this summer as it was one of the only first-line meds I hadn't tried. It's been a few months and I have to say that the cold, detached feeling I have on it isn't worth the impact on my social/family life.

I never got up past 75mgs because the higher I got the more blunted and annoyed by human presence I felt so I stayed at 37.5mgs.

I'm reading that people who suffer from this detachment do much better on Nardil, which I've never tried.

has anyone heard similar reports about Nardil? Can it be cross-tapered at all or is there a strict two-week taper? have they loosened the food restrictions?

Thanks!

Are you okay, Scott?

Effexor to Nardil - making the switch

Hi guys!

Sorry that I didn't leave a message explaining my absence. I have been okay - not great. But I am content to be a partial responder right now.

You cannot cross-titrate Effexor with Nardil. You really need to have all of the Effexor out of your system before initiating MAOI treatment. It is prudent to wait 10-14 days after your last dose of Effexor before taking your first dose of Nardil. Serotonin syndrome is almost assured when a serotonin reuptake inhibitor like Effexor is combined with a MAOI.

I am fascinated by the idea that a bad reaction to Effexor prognosticates a good response to Nardil. I look forward to seeing how well Nardil works. Let's hope it hits the bullseye.

- Scott
