Prozac v.s Zoloft

Posted by rjlockhart37 on August 23, 2016, at 20:07:40

i've read over again that it said that sertraline is superior to fluoxetine in treating severe depression, zoloft also is a dopamine reuptake inhibitor at higher doses, prozac at higher doses at 100-120mg I've noticed your more active but you don't really feel the dopamine, it's mainly serotonin and NE

prozac usually takes longer than other antidepressants to work, like 6 weeks

i've thought about switching to Marplan, but the fluoxetine does somewhat keep depression away and give a small feeling of contentment, you feel slightly better than a normal mood, but still somedays i won't notice any mood lift, but if i don't take it for a day or 2 i will realize major relapse in depression, i posted a post when i didnt take it, i could tell the way i wrote the post, sluggish and gloomy, mainly my depression feels like gloomy grey day, like you go outside and you see foggy, everything seems peaceful but it's depressing, and i get like that even on a bright sunny day

Some studies show Zoloft is superior to Prozac, but other studies show the opposite.

I actually felt that Prozac was better for me.

i've taken high dose zoloft (200mgs). It was...profoundly dulling and lazy-making. I've heard high dose Prozac can be the same way. I now take a heft dose (400mgs) wellbutrin SR, and I'm getting the relief I need without the weight gain and apathy.

Tried both at the maximum dose and gave them a fair trial but they had no effect whatsoever. I stopped Prozac within 3 or 4 days, and Sertraline cold turkey and neither one gave me any withdrawal effects or any change in mood.

I hear a low dose of Prozac can work on dopamine more than a high dose? I maybe wrong.

They're both different, and at least for me, markedly so. Prozac felt like nothing, while zoloft triggered a strong hypomanic episode. I have read, online, that for some people zoloft is activating, which can be a good kickstart. I don't recall you being bipolar, but maybe that's incorrect.

I'm on 80mg, i do notice it's mood enhancing effect, it's not really strong but still it does keep me out of gloomy states.....

but i found this article saying that fluoxetine indirectly increses dopamine and NE levels in the prefrountal cortex.....and kinda i have noticed that, it's not direct action on dopamine but it yea indirectly increases it's levels.....

zoloft still is a good antidepressant......but i don't want to ditch prozac right now because im in school and it would take a long time to transition ...... but still i've kept Marplan in mind
