Okay....is this hypomania or excitability or what?

Posted by KarenRB53 on August 17, 2016, at 19:42:39

Actually this is a follow up to my posts on Gabapentin for Bipolar2. I received such good advice and good opinions, hoping I will get the same again.
My process wanted to,put me on Gabapentin as a mood stabilizer. I've been off all antidepressants for over 5 months, just taking Ativan prn. Not depressed. Not sure what I am.
Last few weeks I've been very emotional, crying easily but ot for long periods and quite excitable is what my closest friends tell me. Talking more and sharing a bit too much of my business and other peoples business too. Have gotten into a few heated conversations as I take everything very personally right now.
Would Gabapentin help this? Is this a return of depression(even if I don't feel depressed)? Is this being hypo?
It's the over excitability that bothers me. I'd rather stay home by myself than be with people cause I'm worried about saying too much or saying wrong thing. Any opinions on this greatly appreciated.
Karen

Hi, I replied to your previous thread before I saw this. Here's the link to Dr Phelps' site I neglected to include:

I found his take on bpll especially helpful.

Thanks....I've been reading the site recommended on Bipolar2. Not convinced I'm in fact Bipolar2. Really I think that I've always been very excitable and the antidepressants I've been taking for over 25 yrs or so have actually made me a bit hypomanic. Which increases anxiety. Ativan does help but makes me tired. I've tried Clonazepam and didn't like it at all. I've been thinking I need something calming but not a sedative. Any opinions on best anti-anxiety med? even though I'm very emotional I don't think it's depression. What my friends have mentioned is that I say too much. About myself and others. Now I'm afraid to go,out with people. Any opinions? Thanks

I can't think of a better sedative than ativan. Maybe valium, serax, xanax xr....I mean, there are plenty of benzos out there.

I think after that much exposure to an antidepressant, your brain just might need some time to reset. Sounds to me like you're doing a good job with everything. Your friends just may not be used to you without the antidepressants.

I'm doing research on social anxiety. Anyone have any suggestions or what they've used for social anxiety. Probably more like GAD. Always been anxious. I take propranolol (inderal) because I have Essential Tremor. Its in the family. Don't find it helps much for anxiety. And it makes me very tired. So between that and ativan I can get very tired during the day if I take both.
