prozac rescue

Posted by rjlockhart37 on July 7, 2016, at 20:13:35

i've been depressed today, mainly i think it's because ill be in a gloomy mood because i don't have internal stimulus....i've noticed if i don't take prozac thats what happens.....i took a 40mg capsule again waiting for it to take effect, it does work but it's not such a kick like effexor or wellbutrin, prozac just has it's own mechanism.....i rerember when i first started it it gave me a peppy pop feeling, i was content and more mood driven rather than just drifting through the day

hopefully this 40mg capsule will take care of my current depression......feeling depressed all day without prozac is not cool

Why don't you take Prozac or any other drug regularly? My thoughts on "pulsing" antidepressants is that they can produce treatment-resistance and perhaps a "kindling" of your depressive state, which allows your brain to switch into depression more readily. Maybe your way is better. I don't know.

usally i take 80mg in morning, but i missed and realized i was really depressed today.....im taking the 80mg in the morning, i took 40mg this afternoon and i got better, but i realize if i go without prozac i get very depressed.....it's like everything turns gloom .....

prozac actually is known to be not as effective for severe depression compared to zoloft and other ones like effexor and TCA's .... but it does have some improved effect, mainly through it's serotonin enhancing effects, dopamine is indirectly increased by fluoxetine but it's not a noticable effect like wellbutrin or zoloft at 300mg.....

im already on it, it would be a pain coming off it and trying to transfer to zoloft.....

still sometimes it alters my mood, prozac induced mood lift.....the depression i had today was deep, and i realized how much of chemcial withdrawl without an antidepressant has......i've been on prozac for years and it has kept me afloat in horrible times but sometimes it's natural to get depressed but usally when horrible things happen it makes me numb

Did you want to switch to another antidepressant?

You know that fluoxetine and its active metabolite have a half-life of over a week. How would you cross-titrate to take another serotonergic drug? I guess you discontinue taking fluoxetine, wait a few days, and begin the other drug, while fluoxetine is coming out of your system gradually and steadily. Of course, you could also try adding a drug like Wellbutrin or Remeron (45-90 mg/day) instead. Pharmokinetic interactions would have to be taken into consideration when switching or augmenting.

i don't have severe depression, where i'm like in sorrow deeply, but i get gloomy....everything kinda just goes grey and white......but like i said, zoloft does treat severe depression but im on the max dose of prozac.....it's effects arnt like they where when i first started but i notice if i go a day without prozac i get very depressed, i know it lasts a long time but i've noticed 1-2 days without fluoxetine depression really lingers in.....right now im on the prozac and don't feel the deep depression lag.....but i'm not euphoric or in a really good mood like it was when i started treatment 11 years ago

don't know maybe increase nuvigil to 300mg, or add remeron.....but im not sure if my doctor would want to add on something, more like increase the nuvigil

wellbutrin and prozac work well together....i've been on it before, maybe ill have a second trial.....
