Medical marijuana and MAOIs

Posted by PilledOut on June 17, 2016, at 13:45:10

I've been on Nardil (generic) for about a month. I tend to be very sensitive to meds, so I'm still on a low dose (22.5 mg/day). I'm titrating up gradually over time. So far, Nardil hasn't been helping, but I haven't really gotten side effects, either. I might start to see something once the dose reaches a higher level.

I have social anxiety, generalized anxiety, and depression. I suffer from a lot of emotional pain and agony. Benzos help, but I can't take it it more than a couple of times a week or I'll build tolerance. I'd love to be able to take benzos everyday because they're so helpful, but I can't. I'm wondering if medical marijuana (MMJ) can help like benzos, and if I can take MMJ everyday.

I live in an area that's very marijuana-friendly, but it still takes some research, time, and effort to obtain medical marijuana. I've done plenty of online research about it already. Also, MMJ is very expensive because it's not covered by insurance.

Anyway, does medical marijuana interact with MAOIs such as Nardil? It's hard to find info about this. Are there any types/strains of MMJ you'd recommend for me? How should I take the MMJ - through edibles like brownies, capsules, tinctures, vaporizers, or some other method?

I've smoked my fair share of cannabis and want to warn you that different strains can interact with medications.
It has happened to me when i ate an maoi (i can't say what sort of maoi because it wasn't legal), and i ended up in hospital because os some sort of dopamine/serotonin overload.

I'm pretty sure that it can work, but i urge you to talk to your pdoc about it and not take advises on internet..

Sorry about this, i usually am very liberal to giving advises to people about things, but this is to risky so please take it with you doctor.

If you find the right strain with the right ratio of thc/cbd and all the other 350 (?) cannabinoids that is present in mj, it can be very helpful.

But i can't give you any advises even if i know to some extent what you can smoke and not.

Different strains activate very very different synaptic receptors in the brain.

Kind regards / J

Regarding benzos, i think that you should rotate your bensodiazepines.

Like 3 days of one sort and 3 days of another, and so on, to keep tolerance away.

Nitrazepam is absolute the best anxiolytic i have ever taken, but it just works for like 3 days.

Just a tip for you my friend.

MJ can cause ugly psychosis. Either acutely and/or long term.

Been there myself.

Thanks for your responses.

Does anyone have any more to add about MAOIs and medical marijuana?

I think that you should just let Nardil do its job at 60-90 mg/day to resolve your symptoms before attempting to add another drug to address psychiatric disorders that Nardil is known to treat effectively on its own.

Mj should work on all those symptoms you mentioned. I have smoked it off and on over the years and I find it helps a lot. CBD oil can help too, or maybe a combination of both. Indica works better with me, other than that I don't know what kinds to tell you.
